Zachary Parker vs. Darryll Williams, 12 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Round 1

Williams is bulling in, bobbing & weaving, getting jabbed in the brow, shooting his own hard up-jab but not finding the mark before they rattle together in a clinch. Parker with a very nice jab in multiples, carefully taking aim with each on the backfoot. Parker very precise in his foot placement and not falling for Williams' fake-out forward rushes and hook feints from either side. Big hooks from Williams, whiffing as Parker does a quick lean outside. Parker impales Williams on the jab coming in, then gets him set up for jackknife power-bomb (wrestling move, for the uninitiated) and digs the body with both hands while his opponent is slouched with his middle drawn up like a pair of pants hung out to dry.

Round 2

Williams is throwing big lead rights into the face, surprising Parker with their speed. Parker is moving left and right a few stops each and stopping on a dime, herky-jerky. BIG LEFT HOOK on the kisser by Williams. Parker in retreat, seems okay but that was a huge shot and he's no longer even jabbing, simply dragging the left arm low, too stunned to even form up his guard. Williams grinds in and drills Parker low with a hard, shallow, triple right uppercut. Williams tearing into him until Parker has to clinch.

Wasn't expecting that dramatic (and sudden) a turnaround following the first, which seemed to set table for Parker finding the blueprint to smartly outbox Williams.

 

Round 3

Williams continues haranguing Parker with quick hard jabs up top, reeling in and sending it straight back out. Parker turns southpaw and paws with light right jabs while sliding his feet backward. Williams is tanking in with that bob and weave power-punching style, rising up explosively off his bent knees and stunning Parker over and over with hooks. Parker forced to clinch regularly. Williams is shrugging his left arm up to deflect the Parker jab away, then flipping the arm over to hook inline. Parker is doing naught but flee and wedding-rice the weak right jab.

Round 4

Williams is pumping in lead rights, pulling them halfway back and doubling up on them. Chest and chin of Parker being sought out and found with that right. Williams is completely disregarding Parker's southpaw jab and corralling him into the ropes, muscling him in place with his thick arms, then cracking with the right. Parker using all his might now to push down on Williams' arms by just past the wrists. Parker is orthodox again, circling out behind the jab successfully and then laying a trap and luring Williams onto a right uppercut. Williams still grinding him down and touching him in pursuit, however.

Round 5

Williams is magnetized to Parker, seemingly unable to fathom giving him so much as one centimeter's breathing room. Parker comes out southpaw again. Williams lands a huge body shot that folds Parker in half temporarily. Parker is dealing out right jabs like a card-shark while easing backward in a wide-legged, side-on posture. Williams is now southpaw himself, at least briefly, doing a bit of the Dempsey/GGG shift in pursuit. A trickle of body shots for Williams as he chases the reluctant Parker down.

Round 6

Williams is throwing more of the same old stuff and now Parker seems to have found a patch for this bug, doing his own bobbing & weaving and incorporating some jab & grab, still a lefty. Parker is tuckering Williams out shouldering and wriggling between his arms in the clinch, then stepping out and poking the 1-2 into Williams' temple. Parker blocks a couple of Williams chops, actually throwing an uppercut into a punch to disperse it at one point.

Round 7

Williams is doing that Dempsey shift again, letting himself quickly get squared up to Parker upon catching up to him with hurried footwork. Williams going into submarine mode to get under the right jab of Parker and then breaching with hard explosive overhands, like a shark gobbling up an unsuspecting seal from below. Parker is playing defense, running, jabbing, shrimping, and clinching. Williams landing some nice body shots.

Round 8

Williams is thrusting in hard at the body until Parker grabs him and spins him onto the ropes. Williams is letting both hands go nonstop as he routs Parker despite the latter pantographing his legs and making full use of the large ring. Bizarre warning from referee Terry O'Connor against Williams, apparently for applying too much effective pressure? Didn't catch what the real auspices were, but seems chintzy; I didn't see any foul. Williams catching Parker leaping away into the ropes with the lead right. Body shots by Williams, but Parker is elbowing him in the face to get off the ropes. Oi, Terry - where's the warning for Parker, then??

Round 9

Williams is crouching in and landing hooks on the body, then shifting to southpaw and stuffing a right hook under Parker's chin, bang on his esophagus. Parker is still just running and jabbing. Williams picks off some jabs on his right forearm, ramming it out halfway to meet Parker's right fist and perhaps intending to damage it. Parker carrying the right glove low, pulling it up to jab but telegraphing somewhat as Williams is able to lift his guard and block the jab while stomping after him. Parker lands a jab on the nose and ducks away from Williams. Now a long body jab from outside by Parker. Williams comes in sweeping fat hooks and is ducked and darted around.

Round 10

Williams is leading with the right, pecking at the chest of Parker with it even as Parker jerks the carpet out from under him with quick slides backward and in diagonals. Parker is starting to bounce the right jab off the nose of Williams and either drop away or snag Williams' arms within his own jumping in. Williams tossing lead rights at the body, falling short as Parker hops away. Parker jabbing lightly into the head, then right-hooking off the jab, and then pulling Williams into a tight hug.

Round 11

Williams is going all-out with body shots, but Parker is able to shield himself with his arms bent at their elbows, and shove his way free. Parker now jabbing the body, lowering Williams' guard and then grazing his face with a few. Another body jab when the gloves of Williams come up accordingly. Parker boxing well now, using lots of randomized movements to keep Williams from establishing a rhythm. Parker is jabbing into the belt line from afar, then ducking and spinning from all of Williams' shots. Left shoe of Williams needs retying. Time in. Williams is reaching up top with rights but can't find Parker, getting jabbed downstairs.

Round 12

Williams is weaving in, serpentine, rather effectively slipping the head jab of Parker, but not able to close that gap. Parker still landing the body jab unabated on the outside, and clinching up whenever it seems like Williams might get him cornered. Williams shifts in, throwing straight leads into the gut, landing a few. Parker is uppercutting off the ropes to chaff up Williams' combos. Nice jab by Parker while circling left. Parker lands an uppercut as Williams lands a hook. Parker closes out behind the jab.
