Casey is a hack. I cant stand his writings and i gave up on boxing dot com a long time ago. This is just rehash of a ****ty article zale wrote for boxing illustrated in the 1960s which, like all his other stories was self serving. He tore down laMotta for taking a dive to get a title shot but glosses over the fact that he tied up the title for three yrs (after having the title on the shelf for almost five due to the war) while fighting guys that were far less threatening than LaMotta (or several other contenders) was. Zale did a similar article on Robinson, basically saying Robinson wasnt as good as people thought and that he would have beaten him (i believe he even tried to say robinson avoided a fight with him). All garbage.
Not that this is some revelation, but we disagree. I like Mike Casey's articles. He continuously brings to the fore those fighters of the past that I can't get enough of. Horses for courses as they say.
