After seeming the wilder of the pair in the 1st, the Cameroonian has actually settled into the more patient & tidy work, punching through Masaltsev's big home run swings and countering well, scoring jabs & shoeshines.

 

Masaltsev getting pasted in the fourth, several cuts opened up on his face. Soh Fonkou is dancing to either side and catching the lacrosse stick lefts & rights of the debuting Russian on his goalposts, then unloading short counters on the head in rapid bursts and stepping aside.

Erzhan Turgumbekov vs. Stepan Maurer, 4 rounds @ featherweight

 

Southpaw versus southpaw.

 

Round 1

Turgumbekov is reaching in with the right jab, drawing a counter from Maurer and then swaying outside to boomerang in and nudge Maurer backward across the ring with a stiffer jab on the point of the chin. This is an effective trick for the Kyrgyz, able to repeat it over & over again. Maurer holds a very wide guard, dipping his body to his right, nearly down to waist level, and springing up with a right hook which Turgumbekov easily blocks.

Round 2

Turgumbekov continues to jab into the already-bloodied nose and exposed teeth & gum shield of Maurer. Turgumbekov is out-fencing the Russian with ease, and starts threading in a left cross which staggers him. Maurer down from accumulation, held up by the ropes but ruled a slip. Wild uppercuts slashing the air beside Turgumbekov as Maurer desperately rallies, to no avail. Turgumbekov punching straight down the middle. Big left hand rocks Maurer clear across the ring, wobbling into the ropes once more. This ref is a sadist, he doesn't seem to even be thinking about stepping in to wave this off, but he should.

10-8 Turgumbekov, didn't actually score a knockdown but was on the verge on several occasions.

Round 3

Turgumbekov is shaking Maurer up with single right jabs, and sending him reeling when he connects on the pull-counter left when Maurer comes hacking in with sloppy axing combos. Right hooks on the body and mouth by Turgumbekov. Maurer tired but still pumping out loose punches bravely and falling in on Turgumbekov, who shoves him off and resumes target practice on Maurer's face with the jab.
