2/22 at RCC Boxing Academy. WBC lightweight Silver title at stake, 1st defense of Abdullaev.

    They have two common opponents:
    • Devin Miles "The Dream" Haney - retired Abdullaev on his stool after four rounds in 2019; outpointed Linares via UD in 2021
    • Humberto Manuel "Metralleta" Martínez Suárez - knocked out by Abdullaev with less than half a minute remaining in a 10-rounder just months before the Russian faced Haney; knocked out by Linares thirteen years earlier. Yes you read right, 2006... and by that point Linares was already no rookie, but a four year pro!

Abdullaev is coming off a unanimous decision victory over 37 year old Montenegrin southpaw Dejan Zlatičanin in September. Linares, himself 36, is coming off nine months of inactivity since the Haney loss. The challenger is an inch taller.

If his heart is in it and he didn't go to Russia just for the payday I will take Linares by decision. He still had a light of heart and fight in him when he took on Haney and I just don't think Abdullaev is anything special.

Zaur looks better when he's closer to home.

It depends, sometimes he lacks fire. Linares is nothing but fire. Against Haney (and Loma!) he had that one moment when anything seemed possible, yet he came up short.

This is a nice and even fight and I look forward to it!

I think Abdullaev will win a close points decision.

Linares should win the early rounds. But i expect Abdullaev to come back late in the fight, scoring a knockdown and win a close UD.
