Dmytro Nikulin vs. Fayzullo Ahmedov, 8 rounds @ light middleweight

 

Round 1

Ahmedov roams from left to right, flicking out left hooks and tossing the right hand over the top in a waving motion, trying to surprise Nikulin. Quick right jabs by Nikulin, keeping his lead right foot outside of Ahmedov's left. Low blow by Ahmedov. Nice jabs by Nikulin, leaning back above the waist to avoid Ahmedov's messy swipes. Wild uppercuts and overhands by Ahmedov, leading with the right and trying to set up left hooks jumping in. Nikulin just steps back and jabs the head and body. Head clash as Ahmedov rushes in.

Round 2

Ahmedov is throwing left hooks to the body and slapping them up top behind Nikulin's head while stepping in close. Nikulin jabs the head and trots back to drop a few to the body, intent on avoiding any more head bumps. Ahmedov doesn't much care whether they clash or not, marching through right jabs and letting his helmet breach the defenses of the Ukrainian. Lots of jabs scoring for Nikulin but he's getting backed up and rammed into & body-checked frequently.

Round 3

Ahmedov is bobbing and rolling on the outside, keeping his head offline as Nikulin pumps a very conservative jab from outside. Nikulin is in no hurry to get started this round. Ahmedov ducks in with a high-reaching hook. Looping single shots by Ahmedov falling in, getting tied up as he misses or clubs at Nikulin's neck. A few jabs and quick straight combos by Nikulin, but he's unable to get much off cleanly with Ahmedov's whirling dervish routine keeping him out of rhythm. Ahmedov flaps several hummingbird lefts to the face in a clinch, flicking his wrist with most of his arm pinned, just brushing Nikulin's eye with his knuckles in a rapid and irritating manner.

10-9 Nikulin but Ahmedov won the event in the third.

30-27 Nikulin

 

Round 4

Ahmedov is winging big hooks up top and slamming chest first into Nikulin. The referee is becoming vexed, asking for clean breaks and not getting them. He lectures angrily as the action repeats in much the same pattern. Ahmedov runs into a jab but shrugs it off and hooks the ribs. Big looping right by Ahmedov coming up off his toes just misses but causes Nikulin to scurry back quickly. Nikulin is now warned severely to break clean and step back rather than pushing Ahmedov. Another sloppy windmill into a clinch by Ahmedov, landing a few rabbit punches and a few legitimate clubbing blows to the top of the head.
