Zaveck deserves a rematch

Berto deserves some credit for grinding out the win. But i'm not going to give it him.

 

Punches caused the cuts, and Berto was winning the fight, and it looked like he hurt Zaveck at the end of the 5th.

Who knows how it would have ended, but it was a legit TKO. A re-match would be great, but it won't happen, and we all know why.

Hopefully Zaveck get's a crack at another belt soon, he deserves it.

This forum has had plenty of lows, but what's gone on here since last night is ridiculous. There's a level of hysteria here stemming from a combination of the general Berto hate, which is pervasive on ESB, and the anti-American agenda of several posters that has caused people to manufacture a bogus controversy and totally discredit Berto's win. According to ESB, that gif of Berto stumbling forward off balance and his head grazing Zaveck's chin is proof the intentionally headbutted his way to a stoppage in order to avoid the inevitable KO that Zaveck was going to lay on him.

It was a tough, close fight that does deserve a rematch even though that probably won't happen, but it was a clean victory for Berto.

Yeah...Just like he gave Callazo his rematch . Bertos going to stay as far away from this guy as possible. Zaveck seems determined though, and looked great. I'm sure he'll be back in the future.

If headbutt contributed to injury it should have went to cards even if it was accidental.
In any case, this was a voluntary defense - he should have had a rematch clause in the contract. Unless of course he got shafted by his promoter.

I def agree with the TS...the fight was actually turning out to be quite entertaining and I hav a new respect for Zaveck. 1 cnt help but feel sorry for the guy who was obviously frustrated with the way he lost his title

IBF Champion Jan Zaveck lost his welterweight crown on Saturday against the American Andre Berto because the fight was ended by a serious cut injury after 5 rounds in a completely open and thrilling duel. The defending champion and the challenger fought in Biloxi (Mississippi, USA) over five rounds a boxing match worth seeing. The world champion had a good start and earned more and more respect from the American through the first rounds. However he suffered a severe cut injury under the right eye after a head butt. After the break of the fifth round the visual field of Zaveck was so impaired that he could not continue fighting in order to protect his health. Coach Dirk Dzemski acted responsibly and did not let his fighter return to action after the break. One judge had evaluated the fight as a draw at this time. The other two each had one point in front for Berto. Andre Berto promised Jan Zaveck a rematch. "The fight ended only through the injury but has not been decided in a sporting way. We now hope that Berto keeps his word. Jan has made an impression with his appearance in the U.S. and set up a real sign of respect for his abilities. The determination is bitter, but the health of the athlete comes first," said manager Ulf Steinforth after the duel.

 

Zaveck need's to get himself a decent cut man first. And Berto was winning this fight. Unsavoury ending of course. A rematch would be nice but it's doubtful. I have my concerns about Berto though. That kid is talented. But he's eating waaaaay too many punches.

 

Add him to the very long list of boxers who will go blue in the face waiting for a deserved rematch.
