Zhang accepts to fight the Beast Hrgovic

Finally! This is great news. In the words of the great Mills Lane:

I can halfway understand guys like Parker who have brand value turning Hrgovic down but why would somebody like Mckean?

 

Ortiz, Kabayel, Gassiev, Ruiz, Parker, Mckean all turned down a fight for the MANDATORY position. It's just sad what boxing has become..

 

Yeah that puzzles me a little because he was one of the few fighters that said he would take the fight if offered. Guess when push comes to shove he was like the rest.

Have no idea what else he would have cooking. Probably another couple of journeyman.

 

60/40? Where were all of those 75/25 figures coming from that people were repeating?

 

One day people might figure out that most boxers aren't brave just because they step in the ring, they're just bullies who are used to fighting with the advantages and in many cases who spend most of their career beating up people with very little chance of winning. As soon as they confront opponents who can seriously hurt or humiliate them, they take the easy road unless there is a massive pay-off or they are forced into the situation.

To paraphrase a famous trainer when he told Hagler why he ain't going to get many offers in boxing, but changed a bit for Hrgovic:

Meh..."negotiations are underway ". Wake me up when the contracts are signed and money has been wired.

 

Good for Zhang to accept it. Should be a good fight for 4-5 rounds then I think Hrgovic stops him.

 

McKean is not in a position to refuse such a fight at all, it was probably his chance of a lifetime, but Zhang is a really tough opponent...
