Look i like Zhang's style of fighting and i like his attitude, but dear me once again this forum has gone absolutely bonkers like they did with Joyce last year.

Joyce had 15 professional fights.....and was one of the slowest so called top Heavyweight's i've ever seen with no defence. So yes it's not that surprising that a heavy handed counter puncher like Zhang could exploit Joyce's limitations, who also never fought a puncher Parker is an average hitter at best.

The way people are going on is like Zhang conquered the world just like they did with Joyce, for beating a shopworn Parker who was never one of the top Heavyweights just solid at best.

I think people need to settle down and put somethings into context, Zhang has been a professional for almost 10 years and only has 1 win against a fighter in the top 10. His career for the most part was nothing remarkable until he beat Joyce so let's not get carried away.....

I wish Zhang all the best and i hope he gets a big fight, but the fans need to calm down with this current flavour of the month mentality.

Agree. He was impressive vs Joyce, but let's not pretend he didn't just beat an opponent that is tailor made for him. Not everyone is going to stand there and eat leather.

Agree with you but it's worth a hype train for.a few weeks given the demolition job he.just inflicted.

Agreed. Reminds me too of when Joyce beat Parker. Joyce was still crap. But Zhang is a good fighter.

All the smaller guys that were legit ATGs can stay away from him and land one here and there and make Zhang work. After round 8, they have their way with him. It would be sad to watch. I like Big Bang even if he is a hypocritical CCP commie living the good life in New Jersey. At least he appears to have balls regarding his record and he's fun to watch, matched properly.

Let's be honest Joyce has been one of the more hyped up fighters over the last few years on here, Zhang gets all the credit in the world for cracking the chin of maybe one of the best iron chins in heavyweight boxing. At least for this era..

Joyce's apparent iron chin was based on the Parker fight who isn't a big puncher at all.

I'm not saying Joyce doesn't have an above average chin, but the way people were going on about it like he has one of the best chins of all time, based on very little evidence was baffling in all honesty.

Good win for Zhang ? Yes. But it's not like beating Joyce should put Zhang on a pedestal either. Joyce had 15 professional fights and was limited with a poor defence and below average speed. A tough guy with a good engine ? Yes. But other than that he had no stand out attributes in power speed or skill.

Nothing new here: people ranked Michael Grant over Holyfield (old but still), Klitschko's, Tua, Byrd and thought he had a good chance of dethroning prime Lewis after Grant was pummeled from pillar to post by Golota (whom Lewis KOef in 1 BTW) and hadn't look impressive in any single fight of hid career. All he had was size and sculptured body.

Zhang, at least, shows some very good attributes aside of power - skills, boxing IQ (the way he set up final punch was brilliant), impressive hand speed for a guy of his size etc.

I love how the narrative switched.

Joyce is now useless, Zhang beat nobody.

Joyce has the best chin in HW boxing, period. The fact that Zhang dropped and KOed him is incredible. Joyce has never ever been close to going down and he got cracked by Dubois cleanly at least 20+ times, Parker loaded up with 100% power and didnt even put a dent it. Rarely does a fully loaded up punch land, even when you're not the biggest puncher, it will drop most people

    Joyce dominated Parker.
Parker's skills are on par with, if not superior to those of anyone Wilder has ever beaten (and no, I am not a Parker fan).
Zhang dominated Joyce, ultimately defeating him decisively.

Applying the conventional American triangle theory that designates "Wilder as the hardest-hitting heavyweight in history," Zhang emerges as the most formidable puncher ever witnessed on Earth.

In reality, no. Zhang has proven to be a big puncher against a very limited fighter in Joyce. In saying that, he'd beat Fury, who's also ranked far too high against former champions. Zhang needs to beat another 2-3 top dogs and then prove himself as a champion before we can measure him against the elites of the past.

I think we have heard the last of Joe's superior bone density. The British media really bought into his juggernaut persona, covering his bone density extensively in the build up to Parker lol.

    This.

Even non-casual fans like forum members here are so ridiculously ready to change their narratives based on the latest match result.

A year ago Joyce was this unstoppable force who would bulldoze down the division. Now he is "lol, he has always been just a hypejob, who did he beat anyway".
Before losing twice to Usyk, Joshua was regarded was someone who the likes of Fury or Wilder must have on their resume as "AJ is such a significant fighter of the era, no modern HW resume is complete without a fight against him". Usyk was supposed to be demolished and exposed for the little CW that he is. Fast forward to today and AJ is now "a robotic s***e, he was never good anyway, Usyk is still just a CW, beating Joshua doesn't mean a thing".
A year ago Zhang was just a "slow oaf, look at how he struggled against Forrest" and he was supposed to be easy pickings for the top guys. Fast forward to today and now Zhang is "clearly the third best in the division at least, I've always known he was this destructive force".

Recency bias is so strong it's not even funny anymore. While in reality there's a reason the HW has always been so fluctuating and prone to upsets. Even "pillow fisted" HWs carry much more power than what is needed to knock out cold anyone with an accurate punch. As cliché as it sounds, Lennox Lewis was right - one punch can and do change everything in this division.
