Zhang's current popularity is based off the sloth Joe Joyce wins.. ppl are forgetting his previous wins.. he moves well for a big HW and clearly has skill and ring IQ but let's not get ahead of ourselves... Joyce is poor anyway & probably damaged goods by the 2nd fight.. & apart from Joyce he's not really beaten anybody and he's struggled with very poor opponents before... so don't compare him to Usyk or Fury... Zhang almost gassed against ancient C level journeyman Rudenko & barely beat Jerrry Forrest ffs.. fairplay for the Joyce wins but I don't see it as anything other than another price v Thompson to be honest.. he's not beating Fury or Usyk ...
Zhang catches Usyk clean like he did Joyce then it’s gonna be lights out for him too. He has to catch him first.
For all the talk about Usyk outboxing and outclassing Joshua, AJ actually landed some hard shots, both to head and body, and Usyk never looked truly hurt and far from being taken out, so I think he can weather what comes from Zhand. And after 7-8 rds of the pace that Usyk sets Zhang is going to gass badly and might actually be taken out. For me, Zhang's chance is landing a hail Mary. He's a skilled and heavy handed fighter, but you have to have a better gas tank than he does to hang with Usyk.
His best chance is to use his massive physical advantages, unleash the big left hand and clinch to conserve energy.
I see Usyk winning on points, but it's an incredibly risky fight. Usyk is my absolute favorite fighter, he was the first guy I tuned in live for and I said that night I was never gonna miss a fight of his, and I intend to stick by that. I've watched all of his olympic bouts, all of his WSB fights and every pro round he's been in. The guy has a high ring IQ, much higher than anybody else Zhang has fought, and has a great chin which hasn't even come close to being cracked yet, and he's been in with some big punchers. Even though he's slowing down with age, he's still an absolute wonder to watch in the ring. That being said, let's not pretend like he never gets hit. His face looked pretty bad after the AJ fight, and boxing wins aren't based on what a fighter's face looks like, sure... but y'know, if AJ can make a gash like that over his right eye, who's to say Zhang can't make a worse one. One bad enough to get the fight stopped. I don't personally think Zhang would actually knock out Usyk, his head movement is good enough to avoid the amount of shots it would take to put him down (I don't see Usyk going down from just one shot, which is why in a Wilder fight I have no doubt he'd outpoint him), but a bad cut isn't out of the question at all. I'd back Usyk to win like I always do, but a Zhang win via TKO wouldn't shock me one bit. Hope we get to see it happen, both are some of the first guys I got interested in when I started watching the sport, and at this point you could consider it the number 1 guy vs. number 3. Or 2 vs. 3, or 1 vs. 5, whatever you wanna call it, it's top guys fighting each other and there ain't never anything wrong with that
A guy with godawful stamina (Zhang) against a guy with elite stamina (Usyk). Not sure why I find this match up interesting. Part of me kind of wants to see how this one goes and if Zhang can land a punch that surprises Usyk.
Usyk wins this easily. Wouldn't be a good fight. I like Zhang but I'd rather see him fight Dubois, Bakole, AJ or Fury.
