Zhang should fight Wilder, a fight despite their age would attract interest and provide both of them with considerable earnings.
That fight doesn’t take either fighter anywhere. Zhang should give it his all in the Parker rematch. If he loses that one it’s over for him. Wilder should retire as it is.
Zhang vs Wilder could be the defensive fight of the year. Two shot has-beens dance around each other for 12 rounds, avoiding punches and avoiding THROWING punches.
Zhang needs to trim down. He can beat Parker. Serious lack of brains thinking he was going to come in and do what he did to Joyce.
Two of my favorite recent fighters. But it wouldn't "be good." Wilder wanted to retire after the third Fury fight. He only came back because the Saudis started waving so much money around even David Tua and David Haye are talking comebacks. It's sad, actually. But it's an old story. Just the names of the "old" guys change. Wilder is an old 38 (39 this fall). He's had a half-dozen hand surgeries. Bicep surgeries. He's been falling apart for a while. Unless you want to load up on PEDs and hope to get a "second wind" ... like an old Povetkin did ... heavyweights tend to age out around 38. Very few even all-time great heavyweights have big wins after age 38. Most were retired by then. (Lennox Lewis was very wise.) Not to mention, Wilder's been the far lighter man fighting big heavyweights and hasn't outweighed anyone he's faced for a dozen years. Thanks to his unbelievable KO power, he's managed to stop nearly everyone he's faced. But being the far lighter man IN EVERY FIGHT for more than a decade is a lot to deal with. Wilder shouldn't remotely consider getting in the ring with anyone at this point, let alone with a man who outweighs him by close to 100 pounds. Parker was seven years younger and 30+ pounds heavier than Wilder. Zhang on Saturday was an easy 80 pounds heavier than Wilder. It's too much weight for a guy with injuries anyway to have to deal with. I don't know why people consciously overlook that when it comes to Wilder. Also, Zhang was a great story. He can punch like a load of bricks, which I love about him. But he got old before the big fights came calling. And, at some point, two wins over a 40-year-old Joe Joyce only go so far. Beating Wilder isn't going to elevate Zhang to the top of the ratings. Zhang's been passed by two younger guys already. Those are the guys he had to beat. He didn't. Given his age, Zhang was never going to be the "future" of the division. But it was nice to see him have his day in the spotlight. I hope we get more big heavyweights from China. He is a true pioneer in what seems like an untapped pool of potential talent.
Zhang’s hands are very heavy and if he comes in lighter than he did against Parker I reckon he KOs Wilder. However Deontay is dangerous so it really would come down to who lands first.
Basically this Two very low output fighters who wait patiently for an opening to land a knockdown It would be a very boring fight, until maybe one of them can find a finish out of nowhere
