They sent this guy to confront Zhang for not throwing punches, he's on his way. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C2e1mzoPN1D/?igsh=MXBpc28zbThhZ2o4Yw==
Two knockdowns will give you an edge for those two rounds, but they won't win you the bout if the other guy goes on to land a multiple of the punches you do. The numbers don't lie. Zhang needed to pour it on in the 12th to have a hope of pulling it out and he didn't. What was his corner telling him?
It was within Zhangs grasp, but he couldn't follow up on his early success and allowed Parker to rally and take the remaining rounds. I'm guessing Zhang will activate the rematch clause he wanted, likely lose again, but be set up financially to retire.
I thought that after watching the highlights. Then I sat down and watched the whole fight and Parker clearly won. He just didn't have any memorable moments. It was all boring consistent stuff winning him rounds.
Close fight that i though Zhang lost. And i liked them both. My prediction was Zhang inside 7 rounds.
Ha ha this brilliant, I created a thread on the nonsense (and almost accepted theory) that Zhang was robbed against Hrgovic earlier this week. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/zhang-being-robbed-against-hrgovic-myth.717821/ Punch stats only tell half the story of course but Hrgovic landed more punches, jabs and power punches. He outlanded Zhang in 9 rounds! He 100% swept the last 3 rounds. Yet this garbage has been accepted. Now last night was easier to argue in favour of Zhang in my opinion because there wasn’t a lot in the first 6 rounds and with two knock downs then it’s an uphill task for Parker. But he swept the last 4 rounds so was always going to be close. Hrgovic was definitely a clearer winner than Parker. But for Zhang, continuing to do nothing in the last third of a fight and relying on his bolder head to get him through, does not support any theory of him being robbed. If he isn’t knocking top guys out then you can’t depend on being in a fight for 8 rounds only.
I list money on Zhang but he clearly lost. He won like 4 rounds max, you could argue 5 but would be reaching a lot. Parker clearly outboxed him and despite the 2 kd's still had the wins. The right guy won.
Zhang hardly threw any punches, after knocking Parker down twice he didn`t try to finish Parker and just kept waiting, really low out-put, he looked like a 90`s Foreman, he was carrying too much weight and gassed, he did nothing in the vital last round.
On "The Athletic": CompuBox’s fight analysis from Joseph Parker’s victory over Zhilei Zhang: “Zhang knocked Parker down in the third and eighth rounds, but Parker almost doubled up Zhang in power punches landed 79-40. “Parker averaged 22 punches thrown per round over rounds 1-6, while Zhang averaged 26. Over rounds 7-12, Parker averaged 30 punches thrown per round, while Zhang decelerated to 19.5 punches thrown per round. “Parker outlanded Zhang 53-31 over the last half of the fight.” Seems also there will be definetly a rematch later this year.
Parker won. Zhang won rounds 1-3 and round 8. Parker won the rest. And then there were the two knockdowns. So that puts Parker 2 points ahead. I don’t mind the rematch. Zhang will have a good punchers chance. He did break Parker’s nose and knocked him down twice.
Parker clearly won in my opinion. He out landed Zhang in all but 2 rounds, same if we only look at power punches. You could also argue round 8 wasn't even an automatic 10-8 round for Zhang as other than the knockdown Parker controlled the round, so it could easily be a 10-9 round, if your inclined to score it that way. But this thread once again shows why we sometimes get bad decisions in boxing, doesn't matter how a fight plays out somebody will have a scorecard that runs against the consensus. I'm sure there's someone out there that had Spence beating Crawford on the cards before the stoppage lol, people sometimes shape reality to fit their expectations regardless of the reality.
