he was also 25-10 in his prime. Gotta look at more than the w column some times. Lost to journeymen in his prime. I know what young did and it’s high quality but overall he had a close fight with very past prime Ali, a draw with shavers and he beat foreman. So a draw with shavers and he beat foreman. While going 25-10 in his prime. Personally im taking zhang bet most people would don’t think it’s embarrassing. More embarrassing for the 70s, a journeyman like that will never reach the top again
Young nowhere near as good as Zhang lol ! Youngs ledger even with his substance abuse issues should show two wins over both Foreman and Ali,however Young was robbed of the victory over Ali,that’s two wins over two legit ATG Heavyweight Fighters ! Young fought in an era that was stacked yet Zhang can not even elevate himself above the contender pool,in an era that let’s be honest is nowhere near as good as when Young was fighting .
You know what, quite a few people say Ali should have lost to Norton 3 times and Young. That's not a good look for the greatest of all time. It's historically terrible. Realistically it should bump him down a couple spots if you believe it to be true
That’s Boxing for you,it is what it is ! I thought Ali lost twice to Norton and also to Young fwiw. As for Ali being the greatest that is also up for debate, you can’t mention the greatest without Louis and Johnson being mentioned and let’s not forget that when Louis and Johnson fought it was a far more dangerous time for them than when Ali fought .
I wouldn't say it's terrible because Norton and Young were elite fighters, but it is clearly not good. After Ali came back from his exile he was already declining, getting hit more, and clearly was not in peak condition for all of his fights. It was a slippery slope and his "wins" over Norton and Young do stain his legacy. I will say his resiliency and resolve do demonstrate greatness.
He wasn't 25-10 in his prime that means you're including the Dokes and Cooney fights and Young certainly wasn't prime then. His prime was between 1974-1977. Young was also put in the deep end early in his career he had to fight a prime Shavers only after 9 professional fights. In comparison it took Zhang over 8 years until he started fighting notable opposition and that was after Olympic success aswell. Young would have Zhang frustrated and gassed after 6 rounds and would outpoint him clearly after that. Zhang doesn't have the cardio levels to deal with a slippery durable defensive fighter like Young. You're talking about a fighter in Zhang who landed 0 punches against Parker in 12th round of a very low output fight.
George in his 40s was stepping in with punchers like Morrison, Briggs and Cooney and not getting stopped.
Yeah, this thread is beyond ridiculous. Prime Foreman destroys Zhang, and I'd give 2nd career Foreman a good shot too!
Zhang has to be the single most overhyped, overrated fighter I have ever seen. The reality is he’s a fat, forty-something gatekeeper who has never been good enough to land a title shot, let alone win anything at professional level. He throws a big punch. That’s it. That’s all he is. The Chinese Butterbean. He’s a 4 round circus exhibit.
Lol only beats george days before he died That big lumbering idiot would get smashed apart by a 70s george and I think the 45 year old Foreman would also stiffen him
OP- youre either vastly overating Zhang”s gas tank or vastly underestimating Foreman”s. Zhang needs to get him out quickly; or he is in big “bang” trouble.
