Zhang pretty fast too. Maybe as fast with one punch shots, Parker throws better in bunches but often of questionable quality. It would be an interesting one, both would be weezing by the 6th. Let's see if that Samoan granite isn't cracked after Juggas wrecked him.
Parker will probably outwork him and win on points even though I think he is pretty shot himself. He definitely lost a lot of confidence after the Joshua defeat and taking the Whyte fight on 8 weeks notice.
They actually fought twice in the amateurs, Zhang dominated and UDd once and dominated and KOd the other time. Zhang actually KOd Parker's even-man, Ruiz, too.
Why does it say that Zhang beat Ruiz on points? https://boxrec.com/en/box-am/692149 And only one of the Parker fights is listed on Boxrec, assuming there were two. Again Zhang didn't get a stoppage, only doing so in 5 of 42 listed non-walkover bouts.
Hrgovic was being touted as the next best thing (with some justification based on many of his amateur performances) and Zhang overcame considerable odds to give him a life and death war over 12, which many thought Zhang won. So Zhang has stolen a fair bit of Hrgovic's hype. But Hrgovic had never faced any adversity in the pros, had few pro fights, little pro ring time and had only fought weak opposition, failing to impress against Kevin Johnson and Sean Turner. He complained of being avoided for years, no doubt losing motivation and sharpness. He had minimal southpaw pro experience and had struggled against them in the amateurs. He had never been pushed onto his backfoot by a bigger man and probably underestimated 39 year old wide underdog Zhang's ability and will to win. Some believe that the death of his father 3.5 months prior also affected Hrgovic's performance.
I checked, and he did never KO Ruiz. He, as you said, beat him by points. My bad. But he did beat Parker 2x, once by UD and KO. Boxrec doesn’t have it and the fight seems lost, but if you look up “Zhilei Zhang knocks out Parker in amateurs” you can find people on various boxing forums discussing it.
I did a cursory search and I'm not seeing it. But be that as it may, Zhang only stopped 5 of 42 of his listed Boxrec opponents in the amateurs and at least two of those stoppages were "RSCI", injury based.
No, it seems you’re right. I have a totally false memory, but I’m glad it was brought to my attention, I’ve made like four replies claiming Zhang KOd him. Very embarrassing.
Zhang doesn't have long left he's old but he can knock out these former top 10s, Parker, Whyte, delboy. Lets see how long he holds on.
