Kotochigov takes a close tenth with a strong closing flourish and wins by a score of 98-92 on my card. First two rounds were pretty close, but I can't honestly see anything by a VK win.

Yeah, I enjoyed that. Lopez came to play, and Kotochigov responded pretty well to the challenge.

 

Odd scores...kinda. I guess judges in Kazakhstan aren't discouraged from scoring even rounds. There were definitely a couple of rounds that were close enough to be called 10-10, so whatever.

 

Nordine Oubaali vs. Arthur Cordero Villanueva, 12 rounds @ bantamweight

 

It mystifies me that Oubaali's first title defense of his world championship isn;t the main event of this card.

 

A glittering performance from the Shining Jewel here versus a very credible foe will effectively cinch Oubaali as my h2h #2 bantamweight under Inoue (as in Naoya, if anyone needed clarification, not Takuma )

Luis Nery is overrated IMO. And I like Tete very much but wouldn't pick him over the Frenchman.

Oh yeah, same, this is a total affront to my sensibilities. It happens to work out logistically for me, though, as Lil Butt only gets an hour or two a day of "screen time" on his Nintendo Switch, and that frees me up just long enough to catch this fight in entirety and then sign off before the showcase for Turarov, about which I couldn't give fewer rats' asses.

(plus my laptop battery has an hour left on it, and retrieving the charger isn't an option since my gf in the other room is sleeping in on her one day off this week from nursing school)

Basically, screw the Astana boxing commission for this - but also, thanks universe for the same.
