When did Calzaghe win a title in a second weight division ?

That said, Erdei really has fought nobody.

Most of the guys that he has fought I havent even heard of. George Blades? Paul Murdoch? Mehdi Sahnoune? These are all defenses of his title. He struggled mightily against Tito Mendoza. Anyways I'm not trying to put him down, his boxing skills, speed look top notch but his resume is horrendous.

Did you miss the Hopkins fight? Hopkins was ring and linear champ. That is at least as good as any other belt these days and most boxing fans would agree that its actually a lot more improtant.

More or less I agree, but he still faced and beat 4 previous champions (Gonzalez, Garay, Sahnoune, Fragomeni) and won titles in 2 weight classes.

Calzaghe still had Eubank and Reid under his belt. You could also say Mario Veit as well as he came into their first fight as this undefeated phenom who was quickly shot down as a nobody following Calzaghe's blasting of him (gee, this sounds familiar...).

Erdei is a talented boxer but never really tested himself by fighting the best...

This really should be a thread about how Erdei's is going down like Sven Ottke's.

Never seen him fight, is he any good? He's had quite a few SD's & MD's so seems like only a matter of time...
The records of the guys hes fighting really doesnt look too bad.

He is a damn skilled fighter who doesnt have much pop in his fists. Weak spots are his chin and his stamina! However,he has a big heart and is a very likeable human being who has never talked trash or tried to belittle an opponent.A classy human being he is!:good

Sorrowly,he is also an extremely protected fighter+he is no big draw in Germany where he is based. Therefore his promoter isnt that keen on spending big bucks on top opposition.
He is in a race against time+he doesnt seem to be that eager anymore on continue fighting any mediocre opposition.
He has a beautiful and warm-hearted wife and a little baby.I somehow doubt that the motivation is still there.
I wont be surprised to learn that he has decided to take early retirement within the next couple of weeks.

To be fair, he wasn't protected from himself, Universum just plays the short money card all the time. Erdei, Dzinziruk, Sturm, Kotelnik and Sidorenko always wanted the big fights but at Universum, they aren't taking risks, and Eastern European fighters have little chance finding another stable. On the other hand though, other LHWs never were too keen on fighting Erdei, there were unification negotiations with Woods, Green, Cloud, Garay and Campillo in the past, but all fell off. Erdei called out Tarver and Jones in the past, but never to get a call back. He's just not exciting and marketable enough to spend millions on him, and he's better than Kotelnik for example who was considered as a low risk for Amir Khan, therefor was sold out by Universum.

Taking on a 200 pounder in 3 weeks notice and beating him toe-to-toe despite being 18 pounds lighter is all heart. The real problem is what comes next. It wasn't a Calzagheesque win meaning he rocked the world, and I don't thin he'd be good at 200, so he'll probably go back to 175, where Brähmer is protected from Erdei himself (Zsolt was forced to vacate)and Cloud & Campillo just recently turned him down. Him vs. Dawson would be nice, and Erdei is 35, so he's about to qualify to the Chad Dawson old men's club.

Yeah, right Ottke is as proven if not more than Calzaghe at SMW. STFU!

Erdei was hidden by Kohl, just like Dzinziruk, which is a sad thing. He will fight at lhw again in his next fight, probably going for another world title. Cloud beeing the most realistic opponent. I hope he get´s more exposure now.
