A couple of these guys are likable, but even those guys like Murdoch or Mendoza are on a Donny McCrary level. Erdei is sad.

Wow, actually looking at the list, I see a couple decent names. Garay, Sahnoune, and Ulrich are no pushovers. It's the rest of the bunch that is horrible. Erdei has definitely held that belt hostage but I forgot that he actually beat a couple of name fighters in there.

Early on his defences were not to bad(Garay is now WBA champ by the way).

But over the last two years they have been borderline criminal. A lot of those guys do not belong in the ring for a WBU title fight let alone a supposed "Big 4" title. Santiago and Murdoch were especially poor.

He is not a marketable fighter, I dont think anyone really wants to fight him because there is really no point and I think he likes it that way.

I agree, but let's not forget that Ulrich was basically shot ever since Adamek landed that right hand on him. He was no longer rated in the Ring mag's top 10, either.

Everyone after Ulrich has been a joke, without exceptions.

You have a point about Ulrich and yes, the last few opponents (as well as the one lined up) have been horrible. I'm guessing they were all near 14 or 15 in the WBO's rankings when Erdei fought them. How they can get into anybody's top 15 is what amazes me.

I actually considered a possible scenario. Imagine an unknown fighter and a promoter show up at one of those WBO conventions and strike up a conversation with some officials and the topic becomes how to get the fighter ranked. I'd love to be a fly on the wall there. Is this beyond the realm of possibility or am I thinking in a cinematic/Hollywood type way?

Well he can at least retire with a good amount of money, which is all it's really about for 99% of boxers. There are some boxers out there that worry about their legacy and their resume and the fans on these boards still shoot them down, so why should they care what fans think when they'll hate them anyway?

Strikes me as the perfect way for the FBI to deliver a RICO racketeering indictment to some boxing promoters and boxing organizations.

A thread on the Euro Forum here saying Erdei finally gets a big fight, yet it's against Francis solidifies everyone's thoughts on him and his opposition.

I started a thread more than year ago regarding thequality of opponents for title defenses of WBO champions, ie., Guzman, Calzaghe, Erdei....etc. One thing that they actually have in common is fighting fighters not even top 20 for title fense .

Funny thing is that someone lectured me about the good qualities of Erdei to the point of stating that he favors Erdei over other fighters in the same division.

Up to now, I still have to see him fight a living fighter.

there is just no money to be made in zsolt. he doesn't have much of a fanbase in germany and is not the most exciting of fighters.

the sad thing is, the bloke is actually a pretty good boxer.

he's just not too in love with the fight game.

Yeah Ottke was protected that´s why he fought every name in the smw division with the exception of Joe C. and his stablemate Beyer and unified.

Erdei is not protected but he is not marketable. Outside of his native Hungary nobody cares about him. In his prime he was a very good fighter with quite some talent but it was wasted. His management tries to make as much money out of him as possible and since he´s not marketable they feed him bums and milk his title. Not a good thing but completly understandable.

Nah, Erdei himself said he wants to fight Jones and that was about one or two years ago ...
