    ZSOLT ERDEI V ROY JONES.

If Roy fights on, and Zsolt Erdei turnes out to be Roy's next opponent, who do you think wins?

Probably Zsolt...Not that it means much at this stage.

    It would mean a lot.

Let me say that Roy needs to retire NOW before he gets hurt.

But if he DID choose to fight Erdei (WBO champ and RING #5) and were to beat him, it would certainly cause Calzaghe's win over Jones to be viewed in a new light.

Currently, Joe's victory is viewd in terms of Roy. How he is now, as compared to what he was. And in such light, the victory isn't that important.

If Roy were to defeat Erdei (or someone similar), Joe's victory would have to be viewed in terms of the light-heavyweight division. And that would boost its importance.

Roy winning would only prove Erdei's shitness.

Jones is finished, he has not improved 1 iota from the first Tarver fight, he has gotten worse.

You're making my point for me.

    You're looking at Jones.

And he's definitely slipped far since 2003.

But if he were to capture a title, it would illustrate that, while Roy is nowhere near what he was, even at this point, he's still a bigwig in the division.

Only because of his starpower. There is a big difference between that and ability.

I hear what you are saying but seeing where Roy is now..anything he does from now on will more then likely have to do with the lack of quality in his opposition..pretty much what he has been doing since Johnson knocked him out.

You're still not getting my point.

If he were to capture a title from a top five light-heavy, it would be because of his ability.

What I am saying is that it would have more do to with the lack of quality of the guy he is beating. Zsolt is a bit hot and cold...and his oppostion has been atrocious lately, his hold on any significant ranking is tentative at best.

Im also saying the reason Roy gets into positions to get these fights is simply because he is a known, reverred fighter with T.V backing. Always happens, doesnt mean he is a true title threat anymore.

I think you are talking about some fairytale situation where a great fighter turns back the clock and has one last win. Against a fighter of proven quality, a fighter who would boost Roy and Joe's legacy (and probably Johnson & Tarver for that matter) I do not see this happening.

    Now you're getting my point.

And, like you, I don't think there's much chance.

Calzaghe should fight Erdei. We all know how much he loves the WBO belt (not taking the ****) and Erdei is undefeated, even if he is ****.

Then Calzaghe-Dawson would make more sense; if they keep building it up through their next fight then in two fights time we could see them meeting up. Besides, then Joe will be a two-weight 'World' champ.

Has this matchup even been mentioned? I have no idea how these two fighters could ever be linked as potential opponents. Roy's not going to Europe and Zsolt's certainly not coming to the states. Does Roy even know who Zsolt Erdei is? Seriously.
