Zsolt Erdei V Roy Jones

Nope. But if Roy is going to continue boxing, I assume he will want to face the best of the best...So anything could happen as far as who is next opponent will be IMO.

 

Zsolt Erdei is actually a very good fighter, but even at this point Roy would be his best opponent he's faced since winning his belt. His best opponent since then was Garay and he struggled a lot with him. I think Zsolt has got used to fighting bums by now and will be surprised what even a very faded Roy brings to the table. Also, it seems that he already is past his peak already, even if he is not as faded as Roy Jones. It would be a competitive fight, a pick'em fight.

 

Of course Roy knows who Zsolt Erdei is. He may not know him well, but he knows who he is. Roy considered fighting Markus Beyer (!) in Germany about a year ago, so I don't see why he wouldn't fight Erdei in Germany too - IF THE MONEY IS RIGHT, of course. Roy seems to have changed his mind about travelling to Europe, because, at this point, he doesn't exactly have the option to pick his opponents any longer to get a good pay-day.

Erdei wouldn't go anywhere near Calzaghe or Jones Jr.

And if Jones didn't want to go to Germany to fight Michalewski, why would he go over to fight Erdei?

In any case, Zsolt probably decisions him, but like WhatARock says, it doesn't mean much at this stage.

 

I wouldn't say Erdei didn't want to fight Jones, it's just a fight absolutely out of the picture for Roy. He became the top ranked contender for the title after the Ajamu win, and I think Erdei issued a statement or two regarding his wishes to fight Jones. But he's boring and never was built up to the international level, so no way Roy would've used his mandatory position, even if Erdei has the lineal title Jones never had at 175. Erdei has no market values outside of Germany.

Erdei would probably win by decision, but who knows. Jones wasn't completely shot vs. Calzaghe, in fact, he averaged his career-average punch output, was just simply outnumbered by Joe's punches.

I think Roy will look good vs. Sheika, and for the last time, Roy vs. Hopkins will be on the table, they'll at least try to make it happen. And you know what? Why not.

I'm not sure thats exactly true. Before the Calzaghe fight the announcers were saying that if Roy would beat Joe, that would give more credence to Tarver and Johnson's wins over Jones. To me it would depend on how the fight went. Jones is not as great as he once was (in fact he's shot) but he could possibly be as great as he was ONCE. Look at George Foreman, after losing to Tommy Morrison he came back and knocked out Michael Moorer (with MM way ahead on points), but just because Moorer got KO-ed from a punch he never saw coming no one rightfully said Morrison should have been undisputed champ material. I know that's not the strongest of comparisons but off the top of my head.

 

If the fight happened it would be Erdei on points imo.

Jones jnr is only going to hurt his legacy and himself by fighting on.

 

Erdei is fighting C and B level fighters for so long, that fighting somebody like Roy (even at his age) would be a shock for him. Jones UD
