ok, Zsolt Erdei is WBO light heavyweight champion from Hungary. Jones Jr. is the number one contender for the WBO LH belt.

    1. would Roy take the fight?
    2. who would win? how and why?

Erdei is also the linear champion.

    1. No, he wouldn´t. Erdei won´t fight outside of Hungary/Germany and Roy won´t fight outside of the US.
    2. At this stage of their career Erdei would beat Jones on points. Erdei is realtiv near his prime and a good technician with a good jab, good defence and and good body punching. Jones is shot. something like 9-3 or 8-4 in rounds in favour of Erdei. Prime Jones would beat him with a similar result.

There was talks about Roy wanting to fight in Germany, against Markus Beyer, a while back. The fight didn't come off because he fights Calzaghe now, a much bigger and meaningful fight, but if he wanted to come to Germany to fight Beyer he would also come to Germany to fight Erdei. If the money is right of course. It's true that Roy never wanted to fight outside the US (since he got robbed so badly at the olympics in Seoul), but he seems to have changed his mind about that now.

Zsolt is actually a good fighter wasting his talent and prime on beating B-level competition. He plays it safe. I believe Roy has something left and isn't shot yet - there's no question he's past his best but he looked better and better in his last three fights, altho it wasn't against top competition. We'll find out about that in november.
I believe Roy would win by UD if the fight happened, Erdei is a good technician but he has never faced a fighter like Roy before.

Anyways, the fight probably won't happen. Roy is a star while Erdei is only popular in Hungary and not even that much in Germany, but ironically he's the 'champ', so he would get the majority of the purse, something Roy would never accept.

    Erdei is pretty good.

I just dont think he loves his craft that much. Dont think he is a lt heavy nor do I think he is a 12 round fighter. I really question how hard he trains because surely he could drop to 168 and he fights excellent for 4 or 5 rounds then has a rest then comes back for the last couple.
Very good amatuer but the pros are not really his thing, a combination of his talent and lack of quality opposition has seen him last this long unbeaten (though the Garay fights were debateble).

He probably would beat Jones now but that doesnt mean what it used to.

Erdei by KO. Jones has a Glass Jaw but he would never leave the States to fight anyway.

Nah, Erdei is just built that way. He could make 168 but would be badly weightdrained. His stamina problems were due to an illness or injury which wasn´t seen by the doctors but is solved now, in his last fights he had no problems keeping his workrate over 12. But he´s a bit past it himseld right now.

Which one is it injury or illness? And what injury or illness?

I dont know about that. He looks a little soft and still comes in 2 or 3 pounds under the limit in most of his defences. As a 26 year old he won an olympic medal at middleweight.
Though I didnt see his last fight Im inclined to think that "keeping his workrate over 12" against a 36 year old who fought most of his career on the mid-west circuit wouldnt be that difficult, and nor would it indicate how it goes against top level fighters.

Against Garay, Sahoune, Murdoch and Mendoza it did not look world class. Though most of the time the rest of his game did.

Don´t remember exaclty. The German commentator at one of his last two was saying that Erdei had either an injury or an illness what was the reason for his bad stamina which was overseen by the doctors.

On the issue of Erdei being injured during fights. I only know of the Sahnoune fight in which he entered the bout with severely bruised ribs. Ring Magazine about 2yrs ago did a story on it if I recall.
Any news on Erdei's next fight?
