Do you guys think he is legit, or a mere belt holder? How do you view his accomplishment of winning the WBC Cruiserweight title? Just asking because this guy does get a lot of flack.
TO be honest... I think he is more proven then Pascal and Tarvoris Cloud... I mean, he might not be able to be Cloud.. but he's def more proven then those guys.... but to answer the question.. i think he is legit
That would be a nice bout. For a while it seemed as if he was the new Sven Ottke....from what I read at least. But I think it takes a good amount of skill to move up to Cruiserweight and win a title, regardless if the division is not a dealbreaker.
An old post that I have presented before, a bit out of date but you can get the picture Zsolt Erdei is another who deserves more repsct and credit, hes an undefeated former 2 weight world champ that had a better LHW resume than Dawson who was a recent P4Per. Completely off subject but read below. You may see where I am coming from Erdei beat Gonzalez Ring #2 LHW who had just contraversially beaten Michalczewski Erdei beat undefeated H Garay twice who went on to become WBA champ and has a victory over current WBO LHW champ Braehmer Erdei beat A Lakatos who has only lost to undefeated fighters and was scheduled for an int WBO LHW title shot, with the winner to be full champ if Braehmer is forced to vacate. Lakatos had to withdraw Erdei beat M Sahnoune the world rated former WBA LHW champ who had only lost once. A very good win. Erdei beat Ulrich the European LHW champ Erdei beat Barashian who has a victory over Ulrich When Cloud backed out of fighting Erdei, http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=21920&more=1 Erdei gave away 17 lbs at the weigh in and went up a division and fought away to win the WBC CW title off of Fragomeni. Look at the double standards when it comes to Erdei - Erdei beats Murdoch then after that Murdoch is a good enough opponent for D Green the world rated CW Erdei beats Santiago by KO, then Santiago is an OK opponent for Tarver in Santiagos next fight Erdei beats Abron yet Abron is an OK opponent for Yusaf Mack, Adjamu and Brudov. Yet people rated Dawson for beating 2 fighters 14-15 years older than him. one with double figure losses and the other who split a couple of fights with that double figure losses fighter. Due to The Ring magazine not following the policy of beating the man to be the man. Michalczewski should have been Ring LHW champ (for his win over Hill. If you followed the original line of the Rings old title belt which disappeared and then reappeared and was just awarded to Jones with no real justification), which would now make Erdei the Ring champ . Think Dawson hasnt beaten a fighter rated above #2 by the Ring as Hopkins hogged the #1 spot for ages, and Erdei has a win over a fighter that beat Johnson, who nearly beat Dawson and that was Dawsons big win. An undefeated 2 weight champ, who made 11 defences before giving up his title to win another at a higher weight, and who beat WBO champ Gonzalez, future WBA champ Garay, former still world class WBA LHW champ Sahnoune, WBC CW champ Fragomeni. Santiago who Erdei beat is being given a title shot soon. Yes Erdei is for real
I would say Cloud, BHOP, Dawson and even probably Pascal are better than him. we wont know til they face off but noone is touching b hop as the best right now.
Does often seem that way Thats why Cloud backed out of facing Erdei. What have Dawson and Pascl done that really makes you think they are better? Hopkins has a style weakness to fast 2 handed fighters his own size, and Erdei fits that style
Unless you're lineal, you're a paper champ. And he is/was a paper champ. However, I do believe Zsolt is very legit. The Fragomeni win was great for the legacy. I don't think people will mistake him as being legendary or anything remotely close, but he has been very good. Much better than Pascal was at any point.
There's still an ARGUMENT that he's still the lineal LHW champ, although I personally think he gave it up when he retired (whether he intended to stay retired or not), the same way Mayweather gave up his championship when he retired. I do think he was unquestionably the lineal LHW titlist, and I never understand the people who claim Jones was. Jones was clearly better. But the lineage was formed when Hill beat Maske, before Jones was even a LHW. DM beat Hill, Gonzalez beat DM, Erdei beat Gonzalez, and that's that. There's no argument that Jones could be lineal champ because the lineage was unbroken for a decade and a half and you can't have two champs at the same time. I give him some credit for winning a cruiserweight title on short notice while still essentially fighting as a light heavyweight. Fragomeni was easily the weakest of the cruiserweight titlists at the time, but that's not too important. It's still a decent accomplishment, no worse than, say, Pacquiao beating David Diaz for a lightweight title, and more legit than, say, Hatton beating Collazo for a welterweight title. Erdei was a good, but not a great, fighter. I thought he lost twice to Garay, but the cards came out his way. He was protected and fought horrendous competition most of the time. To his credit, he was vocal about wanting to face better fighters, and when Universum kept sticking him in there with scrubs, he left Universum. Good for him. His record does stink though. Santiago, Blades, Mendoza, Abron and Murdoch are bad defenses for ANYONE. Abron has lost like 6 straight since then, and the other guys aren't even gatekeepers. His wins over Garay should have been losses. Ulrich was a good win. Gonzalez, Sahnoune, Fragomeni and Barashian were all decent wins. The rest of them are nothing really. At this point, I do think he's a bit faded. He's definitely lost speed, and I'm not sure how well his style will translate to fighting in the US. He was a good, solid, orthodox upright-style European fighter, standard issue, along the lines of Mikkel Kessler. Is that still good enough to beat a number of top guys in a weak 175 pound weight class? Probably. I could see him beating guys like Pascal, Cloud, Diaconu and Mack and perhaps Shumenov. I think slicker guys like Hopkins, Dawson and Campillo would give him fits. But that's just how I see it.
He WAS the lineal LHW champ for about five years then when Universum wanted Brahmer in his place so they offered him Fragomeni where I believe he gave away 20lbs come fight night, he won in a war. Brahmer picked up the WBO belt and Pascal the linealage vs. Dawson so he's without a title at the moment. He's fighting for DiBella. Brickhaus covered just about everything although I'd say he was far more impressive in his last fight than in the one before so I think he ain't finishe just yet. There were rumors of a Pascal and Shumenov fight, let's bring'em on, the more quality fights the better.
Erdei is old and is not the same fighter anymore. He will lose to any top fighter today in the division.
