Zuffa Boxing will recognize only 8 weight divisions

Has the Zuffa Boxing Belt been revealed yet?

 

Dana exposed himself as a moron if he won't "recognize" flyweight as a weight class.

 

And only 8 boxing fans will recognize Zuffa as a legit belt.

 

Should’ve included fly and even minimum. Imagine missing out on Inoue or Chocolatito

 

If they also apply same-day weigh ins the removal of fly weight would make more sense.

Healthy 52kg on the day is probably suitable for 5'3" - same height as Chocolatito
Pushing to 53kg isn't the end of the world

But yeah, if it isn't same-day, this seems a weird omission

 

Inoue walks around at 140, he can do 126 and 130

 

Same day weigh-ins are dangerous and just sinister to think about.

A fighter will do whatever he has to do to make weight.

A fighter who dehydrates, to make weight, will have little time to replenish his system of water; causing the fluid surrounding his brain (for protection as the brain bounces around in the skull) to dissipate.

For the professionals ame day weigh-ins are evil.

I don’t think that makes any sense. Inoue’s opponents come into the ring at over 140. Picasso was reported as weighing 147 in-ring. Do you think Espinoza walks around at 140?

The average height of 126 champs is just under 5’9 right now. The median and mode is 5’8. Inoue is only 5’5.

 

That's the point. Picasso was huge and Inoue schooled him. Picasso looked like a lightweight in there and light weights don't typically rehydrate above 155. He could handle even the weight bullies at 126 if he was good enough. It's not like anybody up at 126 is an all time great

 

A fused 122/126 wouldn’t be a tiny weight class like HW. Usyk can go up and fight a guy 6 inches taller because it’s a division the size of a school. Inoue would have to fight a guy 9 inches taller who outweighs his walk around weight in the ring in a division the size of a town under this system.

And that’s not to rip on Usyk, who I have pfp #1 for his feats. It’s just that fighting Espinoza is different than fighting Fury.

 

People here will whinge and whine because that's what they do. But there's a lot to like about what Zuffa are doing so far.

1/ Competitive match ups.
2/ No PPV.
3/ No in between weight divisions - just the meat and potatoes - Heavy, Cruiser, L/Heavy, Middle, Welter, Light, Feather, Bantam.
4/ Only one champion per weight division.
5/ Rankings - when they come out - will be relevant only to the one title belt per division.
6/ No unnecessary breaks between bouts - two leave the ring and the next two walk in.

 

Inoue can technically fight for Zuffa now, they do have a 118 lbs weight class.

 

It’s true, but imagine the first division he fights in he’s already fighting guys who are massive compared to him like Donaire and McDonnell (or the recent ring 118 champ, junto), then he has to go up and face Espinoza. Seems unfair that a 5’5 guy is expected to start fighting larger guys and then fight massive guys while he’s just slightly below average height in most boxing nations.
