It would surprise me given that the WWE has to declare its business dealings to its stockholders (incidentally they did actually try to buy the UFC in 2004 and at one point expressed interest in Pride FC) and had a discussion with Shane McMahon in 2010.

Also I have to ask again - how is UFC horribly pro-wrestling but the independent Strikeforce wasn't? Legitimately don't understand this.

 

This is why boxing is superior to mma in every way. No monopolies, no blacklist bull****, and no emphasis on the dickhead promoter.

Ultimate Fighting is a goofy name which is why attempts to popularise its use failed but its no different to how the sport became to be known as MMA. You do know it was the UFC who decided that the sport would be called Mixed Martial Arts due to worrying that No Holds Barred was hurting its image amongst the commissions.

First of all Lesnar does have amateur experience - his amateur wrestling experience is just as relevant to MMA as amateur boxing is to professional boxing. Secondly his 2 UFC fights included one against a former world champion and one over a former world title challenger. You can find me a boxer who was thrown in at the deep end like that you may have a point. And that was an unique circumstance due to the problems with the belts caused by Couture's holdout - please point to another such example.

And I find it laughable that somebody can praise boxing given the nonsense that the sanctioning bodies generate. I mean just yesterday it was decided that Maidana would fight Morales for the 140Ibs WBA Interim Title - ignoring the facts that 1) the actual champ Khan is healthy and defending his belt 2) Maidana has only just dropped a previous interim title in an unification match with Khan 3) Morales has done nothing at the weight. I'm glad that at least with the UFC we have world titles that somewhat mean something in MMA.

No. The phrase MMA was invented by Antonio Inoki in the 1970s and it was the UFC that got everybody to use this term for the sport. And who the **** refers to the sport as Ultimate Fighting in 2011? Not even Dana does that. Typical strawman argument from you.

And again no one can justify Lesnar getting a title shot on pure sporting grounds but the situation was a mess with the Couture holdout and interim champ Nog defending against Mir. But it was unique circumstance given how messed up the heavyweight division was and how popular Lesnar was. Again please give me another example of a similar bad title shot otherwise I think we can safely dismiss it as something done due to exceptional circumstances.
