Is this the biggest weight gain you've heard of in boxing? Now I dont know if he weighed in in his clothes or what on the second day, but still...
Jesus wept! He weighed 196 for his official LHW debut 196 is the biggest recorded weight gain of any LHW I've ever heard of up until then and not by a pound or two either. Like by 4lbs. Joe Smith who is considered a big LHW weighed 188 for B-Hop Marcus Browne has come in at like 190-192 IIRC Bivol who is a career LHW weighed 183 in the ring the other night and he was 180, 181, and 184 for his other fights where the weights were announced Zurdo has talked of moving up to HW but it's hard to believe he weighed that much. That's 29lbs
That's insanity, even with today's prior day weighins. What are the odds he gets popped for diuretics, nandrolone or clenbuterol you guys think?
I've heard of MMA guys rehydrating that much but never boxers 'By the time Thiago Alves steps into the cage tonight (March 2, 2012) to face off against Martin Kampmann in the main event of UFC on FX 2, which emanates live from the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia, he'll likely be doing it as a light heavyweight. Not that it matters, but his contest against "The Hitman" was contracted at 170-pounds. Celebrity nutritional adviser Mike Dolce, founder of the famed "Dolce Diet," was "Down Under" this week to help "The Pitbull" make his mark. The Brazilian has been inconsistent in successfully cutting weight throughout the course of his career, but based on a recent tweet by Dolce himself, he doesn't seem to have any trouble putting it back on. 27 pounds in just three hours, for those of you keeping score at home. Alves weighed in at 170.5 at Thursday night's weigh in event, and Dolce later tweeted that he was already back up to 197.6. By tonight, who knows what the finally number might be.'
This is why we need same day weigh ins. No one can tell me this is less damaging to fighters physically. It also just plain makes a mockery of divisional limits even existing.
Yeah it's ridiculous. We aren't just seeing fights between fighters where one looks two divisions bigger after the weigh in, we're seeing ones between fighters who look like they're two different species after the weigh in
He's Oscar next superstar in the making like Canelo was..... ....making weight with direutics and PEDs and having a massive weight advantage over opponents on fight night Beterbiev only goes upto 86kg on fight night and would still destroy him. Bivol would spank him too and Smith Jr would make him wary.
Exactly. The official reason (excuse) was that it was safer for the fighters as they have more time to rehydrate, but it just makes them fight at a lower division as they belong, while taking just as much risks and putting even more risk on the opposite fighter. The obvious reason was that missing weight and weight issues have less of a consequence with prior day weighins, so the show can go on, not fighter safety at all. But nobody can convince me this was done naturally, just like G. Jones vs Lebedev back in the day, where everybody knew what was up.
