Pavlik's opponent had a five year layoff and then one single fight vs a 10-9-2 bum before fighting Pavlik! Pavlik had zero snap to his punches an got clipped moreso than a pro of his 'level' should vs this bum. That guy wouldn't have lasted one round with the Kelly of old. He's basically trying to become a boxer but at his age he can't do it. Ask any pro or serious boxer analyst boxers can't change 15 years of style in their 30's. Terrible fight, terrible showing.
The guy had a weak chin and no snap on his punches but he looked well conditioned and was as tall as Pavlik and had a respectable record. Pavlik could have taken him out in the 1st no problem but wasnt looking for the KO, was there to put his punches together. Good performance by PAvlik
Well I tell you what lets all see how far he goes then. I got a rep, I'm rarely wrong when it comes to breaking down fights lets see how far he goes. Paper belt at most I reckon. Bookmark this thread & prove me wrong when he 'demolishes' a credible belt holder folks lets see Kelly 'The Great' back in action since you all seem to feel he can restructure his fighting style so well. Kelly's going nowwhere of prominence in a hurry I promise you that.
I wouldn't say it was good or bad. He didn't show anything either way, I don't think. He was against an opponent who was seriously overmatched so it doesn't really answer any questions about Pavlik. I thought he looked physically strong though, which is a positive, but I don't think you can take much else from the fight.
Tough crowd. I guess he could have done better, like if he had a gun or a bat. Would have got him outta there within a round instead of taking two.
This. Right now Pavlik just needs to stay sober, stay in the gym and get back in the ring regularly. Pavlik's biggest problems were never his ability as a boxer, but personal issues. If he can control/eradicate them, then he can get back to where he was, at world level. Cannot for the life of me believe anyone would have the stupidity to make any kind of a judgement based on that fight. Ridiculous.
