Very good,:good It also seems more than coincidental to me that precision and technique in heavyweight boxing began to be less important compared to size once the gloves got bigger.
If Tua got the opportunity to fight the line of corpses and lightheavies Marciano did, some of those heads would still be in orbit.
People forget about the olympics that none of those guys were professionals. So much had changed that it would impossible to make an accurate comparison between the two. I will say that even without an adjustment for shoes, cinder, holes, and PEDs assuming those cancel it the watch, there's not a single year that jesse Owens wouldn't have been an all american this millennium. And Chris Byrd would give louis fits, to say the least. A super elusive southpaw? Get outta here.
Gloves!!!... When people match these atg match ups they tend to forget a o About the gloves.. Padding in the early years was light and separated... Unlike the gloves of today. Many factors have tO into play, older fighters had Better chins, hit harder.. But work rate was down...15rds prob even in stamina
If the weight of Rockys opponents makes them such all easy fight, then how did small Conn last longer in the ring with Louis than SHWs Carnera and Baer? How did Byrd, one of the smallest men either Klitschko has faced, TKO Vitali, when he could manhandle 250 pounders? Also, do you acknowledge what a special puncher Rocky was? Your arguments don't add up.
He didn't specify which Tua it was either. And the Louis against Walcott was a better puncher than Tua.
Gloves are a key factor. With smaller gloves it is easier to pinpoint smaller targets between gloves and below elbows. The accuracy to force ratio is closer. A different type of heavyweight was required for smaller gloves.
He might not have been a better sprinter. Gay is very talented. But Owens stopped running when he was young; if we stopped gay at a similar point his career best would be a 10.06. He was able to drop that nearly 4 tenths of a second in the next few years. If Owens did that he would have beat everyone but Bolt in the 2008 olympics. And the long jump was good best event which is why I would place him above a guy like gay.
To be honest this is more or less how I see it. I see people like Greb, Dempsey and even Walcott, as being aberrations produced by the circumstances of their eras.
