Isn't it a bit too early to be making pre-emptive excuses for GGG?

    My post is here:

To reiterate, I think he has slipped a little, but not that much and I stand by the assessment that he's the #1 MW right now. Canelo is going to have his hands full.

You know what would be great?

A barn burning performance by both guys that fans of each fighter become instant fans of both fighters thereafter.

And we all post happy to each other for a full 48 hours until everything returns to normal thereafter.

Too many haters around here to appreciate both fighter's effort to put on a great show. These are (most likely) the best two middleweights in the world. It would be nice if these anti-Canelo and anti-GGG losers just enjoyed the fact that the top two guys in the division are going to put their legacies on the line for boxing immortality.

Well done to both for agreeing to risk their boxing future.

I've never said GGG destroys Canelo. I like both guys but nothing Canelo has done in the past can convince me he has the power to sit GGG on his back.

I fully expect GGG to beat Canelo but if things go the other way I'm not going to cry over the result. I don't expect a blow out from either guy but still sticking with GGG by late TKO.

Produce the exact quote and if you recall Stevenson pulled that coffin stunt so naturally he can expect blow back from such a tasteless act especially considering how it related to GGG's brother losing his life but you would not know anything about that.

Could be in the sense that, me personally has been saying he's been slipping for a few fights now prior to Jacobs and GGG at 35 isn't the same guy he was at 30.

But, GGG is still at the top of his game and Canelo gets or should get all the credit in the world if he wins and he has a good chance.

Odin I don't see how he can be at the top of his game if he's slipping ?? I agree he's been slipping a while, but that tells me he's not at the top of his game. He's on the down hill slope now. If he can't get Canelo out of there or put him in a shell and gain a good lead it won't look good down the stretch where I think his age will show BIGTIME. He's the better fighter, just timings not on his side

Very true and I 100% agree, I should have worded it different.

Agree he's slipping, he isn't the beast he was but he's still peerless at 160 and for that I give Canelo full respect for beating him (unless it's a robbery).

I feel that Golovkin is a little less fast than he used to be and that he has looked a little more sloppy when loading up with his punches most notably against Brook. Although that could be by design; he did say it would be a streetfight.

On the plus side he's stronger than ever and his chin seems better too. Jacobs landed a couple of shots that by all rights would have knocked down or at least wobbled other guys and GGG ate them like candy. His jab is looking fearsome too.

It could be that his skills have peaked but his reactions and speed are starting to dip.

Father Time takes us all out eventually however GGG is still solid enough to spark Big Red.

As a fan of the sport we have all witnessed horrible judging in boxing as there is a reason the sport is still ungovernable. We brace ourselves to expect it because it is the Wild Wild West of sports. This is not saying GGG/Canelo makes it to the final bell this is just an observation of the sport. GGG and Canelo both understand that judges are most of the time unpredictable so they will take it out of the hands of the old farts.

There is no backlash if Canelo fails but GGG is no spring chicken so I expect he is going to start early and badly hurt Canelo around the mid rounds.

If you look at the size of the guys GGG has absorbed power shots from the only chance Canelo has is to build an accumulation of uppercuts and body shots to stagger and slow GGG down. Now when you flip that coin you have to wonder how many of GGG big shots can the young warrior take before he is clouded in confusion and frustration.

I hope this fight lives up to the 18-22 month build up as no matter who wins this is still a win if you are a fan of this sport.

As a fan of his style and of his personality, I now think its a mine field for him in terms of opposition. He really slows down at times in fights. I put it down to age imo... still got a chin, still got a heavy punch, its them quiet spots that happens in every fight now. Its not him letting boxers back in to the fight, its not by choice. He seems to gas and then comeback. What happens when a fighter wont let him comeback??? I honestly think if he wants to keep a perfect record, retire after this. Hes got the big money fight every fighter dreams of...I think it would be perfect. Otherwise a little wanker like Eubank jnr whos fit as a **** will take him and it would be horrible..
