Yeah, I keep forgetting that he fought Williams at 168. He should have been a better lightheavy, but Hearns WAS a better lightheavy. Point taken.
Definitely think he could've beaten Hearns at any of those weights though, to be fair. I just don't see it being an easy bout given Hearns' length and Toney's propensity for sluggishness for stretches of his career. That coasting and blowing up in weight between fights (it was something like 40+ pounds in 6 weeks for Jones, IIRC, especially disturbing considering how important that fight was) could pop up at any point with no notice. Hearns was more consistent in both what he performed well against and what he struggled with. A young, aggressive, conditioned Toney would've been a really tough styles matchup for him. Overall, Toney's career is really tough to accurately gauge for me. Some great stuff on the high end (Nunn, Jirov, Holyfield, McCallum, etc), great longevity (PED's or no, most guys don't/won't stick around like that), but some stretches that just left me scratching my head. Going the WBU route at 175? WTF?
Toney was very inconsistant. I mean look at some of his losses. They are horrible. To best Hearns he would have to be on his A game and with Toney you never know. With Hearns you know. He comes in shape and gives it his all. The Hearns that beat Andries beats the crap out of Toney. Too Mich speed and he has the power to hurt Toney.

To be honest i think it was as much to hype the new prodigy as anything. Moorer said he would never go in trying to knock Hearns out or the likes, they'd just have a good workout. He also said Hearns was out of his class. A lot gets said.
It is about them at their best and as pointed out with Toney- who lacked Hearns discipline- you never know what Toney shows up. And that is a big factor.
Both at their best, Toney beats him imo. He'd be yapping to Hearns, and Hearns would try and take his head off, and get countered and hurt badly. Sure, anything can happen, but that is the most likely imo

Toney would never be able to outbox Hearns. And as far as one punch power that goes to Hearns as well. And I also think Toney lost to McCallum the first time.
