Who are the top ten greatest boxers with the best claims to being the greatest of all time?

Light Heavyweight was barely a division at the time, but you could count wins over Joe Choynski, Jim Hall, George Gardner and Philidelphia Jack O'Brien. Considering the state he was in in the last two, they were ATG achievements.

In terms of Middleweight as well as beating Jack Dempsey, he had wins over Billy McCarthy, and Dan Creedon. Beating Dempsey was great, especially as he had to make 154Ibs in fighting clothes.

Beating Corbett is better than Sharkey and Ruhlin. Beating Maher in 1 round for a version of the heavyweight title is a big achievement.

It's really the consistency which he destroyed the top opposition for so long that really blows me away.

 

Given that Sharkey beat Corbett to say the former was a greater achievement is a moot point.Corbett's win resume is very shallow.

My point is Fitz beat both Tom and Gus in the space of two weeks.
Hall was 8 lbs inside the lhvy limit.Dempsey was 147lbs.
I rate Fitz as the best heavyweight before Johnson.

You'd struggle to find a fight with more question marks around it than Corbett vs Sharkey. Lots of papers said the entire thing was a fix. The stoppage was obviously just to throw it as loads of the reports have Corbett getting stronger when it was stopped, and you can find reports where Corbett was winning through out.

Neither weighed in for Hall vs Fitz, the weights are just estimates, the division was 170Ibs at first, so by the estimates, he'd only be a couple Ibs under.

Dempsey was the champion and Fitz had to drain down to 154Ib on the day in fighting clothes. He had to do a workout on the morning of the fight to make weight.

 

But what do fans think about this?!

 

No. Jones won a version of the title at 160, was never even lineal at 175 IIRC and won a paper version of the title at Heavyweight.
