So what? Buster Douglas administered a systematic beatdown to Tyson, and still lost his next fight. Leon Spinks beat Ali, who was an ancient 37, and still lost to him in the rematch. Lennox Lewis got starched by Rahman and knocked him out when the met again.

Boxing history is replete with these sorts of one-hit wonders who beat an overconfident champ who then learns his lesson and exposes the pretender in the rematch. I will be quite surprised if this is not one of those cases

I know this will be heretical to some, but sometimes superior skill trumps superior punch resistance

I don’t usually laugh about people’s names but Ponce vs Femi sounds like some next level Tom & Jerry stuff.

On a subject though, I don’t think it’s going any other way than the first fight. Ruiz’s hands are too quick and heavy.
What’s worse is that AJ is not clever enough to defend himself against them or at least use his size properly.
He needs to play a perfect game, with a chin as shaky and tank as shallow as his, and I don’t think he’s able to do that.

Which explains perfectly why Ruiz beat AJ, he's got both.

Styles make fights, as far as Buster goes.
    Lewis-Rahman was a lucky punch.
    Ali was old.

As much as it may nauseate you, the reality is, Ruiz as fat and disgusting as he is, and not even remotely close to what a world champ is supposed to look like, he's the more well rounded fighter, who's capable of beating most fighters in the division. Including Parker in a rematch, their first match was too close to call. You're underrating his skillset in a big way, as are many others, just dismissively calling it a fluke, I'm not one that says that flukes don't happen, it's just that this was not one of them.... I mean, I've had to go all out and wrote an article as to why.
A Fairly Thorough Explanation As To Why Ruiz's KO Victory Over AJ Was In Fact NOT A Fluke.

Ruiz is 100% more skilled than Joshua, as well as sturdier.

The areas in which Joshua outdoes Ruiz are: talent (raw athleticism: agility and all-around speed, although Andy's hands are probably at least as quick), power, and probably hunger/drive.

I wonder who Andres Ponce Ruiz is and who is Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua ll are. They probably aren't very good. I have heard of Andy Ruiz Jr and Anthony Joshua though.Anyway Joshua should win like he should of won the first time. If he just uses his jab and fights smart he should win easily.

CST and myself are not bandwagon jumpers. We both warned loudly about Ruiz before the first fight.

All NZers know Ruiz from his title fight with Parker. We knew he was dangerous.

I will rewatch this but I am pretty sure AJ was doing a lot better than you are suggesting prior to the knock down. I had Joshua taking control of the fight BEFORE the knockdown - but started laughing as soon as he started trading with Ruiz as I knew that was playing into Ruiz hands and it could go very wrong, and it did.

AJ just needs to do exactly what he did last time, but not get caught up in a slug fest like he did last time

Povetkin was busting up Joshua but his stamina failed him. It's why I thought Ruiz would be a problem.

Ruiz was not "dominating" AJ before the knockdowns.

But he was threatening. He pounces like a cat - very aggressive flurries - then goes quiet for a bit.

He wasn't dominating. But he was lining up Joshua who was circling the wrong way with his left hand down. He went on to ruin Joshua with that punch.

    Joshua actually can "run"

He just looks terrible doing it.

He was running in the first one, and still got stopped. That's actually the worst strategy imaginable. Andy would prefer he fights like that.
