You must of forgot that wasn't the first time Kovalev was offered a fight with Canelo.

And Kovalev already had almost two training camps for Yarde because of the "talks" and the fight being "almost signed".

 

I don't blame him at all and frankly if I were at his point in life - at the end of a hard career, almost broke, facing lawsuits, in a division filled with sharks like Gvozdyk and Beterbiev - and I were offered 12 mill for an impossible fight, I'd have taken it too.

As for the actual fight itself, there's two routes he could have gone:

1) he could have gone for broke, trying to KO Canelo in the first three rounds. That would be trying to blow out a faster fighter who is at his sharpest in those rounds, who has a legendary defence and a certified chin made of concrete. orrrrr....

2) He could have noticed how Golovkin was feeding him jabs like they were on a 'buy 1 get 3' special, and figured that, hey, if GGG's jab hassled him that much, well, I've got a longer jab and I'm better at creating distance. What if I jabbed his head off, and waited to see if he gassed late like he usually does?

Kovalev took option 2, and I'm OK with that.

 

Yes. It was fixed in that Kovalev was old, physically broken, coming off hard camps and drained to death by contractual clauses. What happened in the ring was legit, though.

 

so funny that Canelo still has the most haters on this board, even though Sergay was the one who was laying on his hammock before the fight with a huge smile on his face,knowing he was getting paid 12 mill to not even try. then he gets KOd by a fighter from two weight classes below him,not even half his size. people defended Sergay to the death when he lost twice legitimately to the better man, Andre Ward and came up with every excuse to discredit Ward. Canelo and Ward are constantly called names on here and portrayed as having bad character, yet Kovalev is the one who killed a fighter in the ring,and is accused of multiple drunken sexual assaults and beating up women. so ironic. and now Kovalev straight up calls his fans ignoramouses,giving them the finger on his way out of boxing this is poetic justice at its finest

He never called them morons. He said they were ignorant of the FACTS surrounding the fight.

If it was Kovalev from even the Alvarez rematch then Canelo would have probably been bullied around the ring. As such, Kovalev turned out to be severely depleted and is now probably close to totally shot.

Every training camp will just hasten his decline too. He is better off going the B-Hop route and juicing out of his skin and hope to turn the clock back against some overrated contender and restore some credibility.

 

yes,but the end result is what matters. there are some who thought Khan was winning against Canelo up until the KO. I don't think the fights being somewhat competitive negates the fact they were both brutally KOd and put to sleep. Kovalev always wants to claim a moral victory. It's similar to when he lost to Ward and complained he was cheating. now we're supposed to feel sorry for Kovalev because Canelo cheated him with a rehydration clause,or not giving him enough time to train. IDK what he can do for his fans not to defend him. I guess they are in denial.

 

I'm still thinking that Kovalev can make a comeback. He's not done yet.

 

Canelo's stamina looked better than ever in this fight. And the reason of it is that he finally didn't need to cut enormous amount of weight before the fight. When Canelo's team claimed he needed to grow into middleweight body, it was one of the most ridiculous statements in sports history - 185 lbs guy needs to grow into 160 lbs LOL

 

If I jacked a fight and got brutally ktfo by a guy half my Size I guess I'd make excuses too
