I watched a clip of Whyte watching the fight with Jonny Nelson and to be fair to him, he was making more cogent observations than the 'put it on him' line that he trots out to Kugan et al. Like many of these guys I think he's playing a role sometimes, but he does pay attention to his boxing and I think he knows more than he sometimes lets on.
Aren't there strong rumours that Wilder doesn't do certain things in training and is surrounded by yes men? It might be him dictating the lack of variation. To be fair to him, he did try to use his jab more in the rematch. Even doubled it up and aimed at the chest. Except he was obviously expecting the Fury from the first fight.
Maybe that's the case with Deas, but Breland was a good boxer and he trained at a good gym. I can't believe he hasn't tried to develop Wilder and add some different options. The simplest explanation is that they tried and failed, not that they never tried at all.
