I'm sorry, would this be during the same fight where the one time he got in close Ruiz started to give him the business, so he clenched and returned to the "stay outside & jab" routine?

 

Couldn’t have been said better.. Again as a boxing fan I respect that he stuck to his game plan and got the victory. But AJ know to make these statements like this when he was terrified of a repeat.. Fury felt Wilder want on his level and went for the kill, Lennox was embarrassed after being KO’d cold and he return the favor against Rahman.. AJ was satisfied jabbing with occasional hooks and even when Andy looked finished he was to afraid to go for the kill.. Not to mention the condition Andy was in for the rematch he was there for the taking..

 

Yeah, we saw whap happened durning the first fight when he tried that.
His best offence comes from mid and close range, that would have played right into Andy's hands, who has the superior handspeed (see their first fight).

 

Too many people seem to have the idea that AJ will forever be too gun shy and will box and move from now on. I highly doubt it. He’s still a KO artist and will get plenty of KO’s in the future. Remember that those shots AJ was landing on Ruiz would have rocked or dropped most heavyweights and would lead to a stoppage. That shot that cut Ruiz in the first round would have no doubt sent Wilder into another dimension.

 

Joshua boxed smartly and carefully, for boxing fans maybe not very watchable but it was effective boxing, he kept Ruiz at a distance even though maybe he should have taken a little more risk, of course Joshua is able to knock out everyone and so Ruiz but he wanted just victory...
