This content is protected "Murder Files" episode on the death of Leicester boxer Shaun "The Guv'nor" Cummins by that plonker Donal Macintyre. Gets boring after laying out the basic premise. I remember Cummins' interview before his British middleweight title shot against Neville Brown. Seemed like your average hard man though after his death no one had anything nice to say/write about him. Supposedly the weirdo convicted of his murder who had a family of his own was Cummins' "unpaid carer". Anyone know any more of Cummins?
But he was an absolute idiot as well. He had connections to South Wales. I remember his girlfriend was in hospital, she might have been having a baby ( don' t remember exactly, it was a long time ago ) and he racially abused the doctor treating her, assaulted him I think, accused him of touching her up and said he didnt want he touched by a , I put this gently, someone from Pakistan. Completely crazy.
In July 1997, Cummins received a six-month prison sentence for assaulting and racially abusing an Asian doctor who was treating his newborn son for breathing difficulties at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Nut case.
This documentary was shown last year and a thread ran on it. Cummins was a horrible bully who terrorised his corner of Leicester. Believe me, he was not missed.
https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/how-good-was-middleweight-contender-shaun-cummins.646474/ I missed that thread, cheers. The exact same theme - literally nothing good to say about him.
Cummins was robbed in a fight for the European middleweight championship against Agostini Cardamone in Italy.
Have you seen the fight? I've always read about a long count after Cardamone got dropped but have never seen the footage anywhere.
No i have not seen it but i liked Cummins as a fighter and followed his career closely.I remember reading about and you are right about the long count.Steve Bunce was at ringside and called it a disgrace
