Just watching a documentary about the tragic boxer Shaun Cummins who once fought for the european middleweight title, he was murdered by someone who was looking after him when he became bed ridden after an accident, he had been forced to retire from boxing because he failed an MRI scan, how good was he and could he have eventually got a world title shot in the 90`s?
Cummins could fight but he was a horrible guy. Honestly, you will do well to hear one good thing about him from anyone who met him or knew him.
He was from my neck of the woods. Leicester was put on the boxing map by Sibson, Pyatt & Mackenzie at a similar time (1980s & 90s ), Randall Munroe came along later. Cummings was never in their class and lost 6 in 20+ bouts so was always struggling to get recognition. Didn’t realise he had such a gruesome death.
Yes they mentioned that in the documentary I was watching, the guy that killed him was caring for him and he didn`t pay him a penny and treated him like dirt.
He got 6 months for trying to attack the Doctor who delivered his son . He was notorious for extorting money from shops and pubs in Leicester and never paid for anything. The worst kind of thug and bully. Very few tears were shed for Cummins.
He was a half decent fighter at British level. He was also a complete nutter .His son was called Frazier Duran ! He beat the Asian doctor up at the brith then said he wasn't a rasist !!. Like a mini version Of Trev Berbick .
He was far better than Benn and Eubank, Mark, because they were awful counter punchers. I remember him on a great card in Derby on Sky against Neville Brown, wearing those Pony trunks and staying on his chest. Seemed quite tough but smothered his work a lot.
cheers mate..yeah, not a nice fella...He was saying that he tried to mend bridges etc, but sometimes when terrorising people, there is no forgiveness
