I had occasion to interview Foneda Cox about 19 years ago while I was a newspaper feature writer. Foneda, a small-time light heavy, was Sonny's friend going back to his St. Louis years. He also served as Liston's sparring partner. Is anyone here interested in what he told me about Liston?
That’s bs Louis didn’t only throw front loaded jabs. He consistently dropped his left because he thought he could get more leverage on his right if you throw the jab properly it shouldn’t leave you open anyway. I also teach double jab and a regular jab how to measure w the jab how to party a jab a stutter jab. There are lots of tricks you should teach your fighters and everyone of them can get countered it’s a fighters job to see what their opponent is susceptible too. I’ve seen to many trainers that go the route of only my way works. Part of the problem w boxing today every gym thinks their **** don’t stink.
My name is Al. ... First I have to correct myself. The interview took place sometime in 1995-97. This is more in the realm of personal information about Sonny. Cox told me the following: 1) He said he had to take the wheel of Sonny's car several times before the cops arrived at a car accident that Sonny had caused when drunk. "He ruined my driving record," Cox said. 2) Sonny "put prostitutes in the hospital from jamming them." 3) "Sonny Liston had the biggest ***** I ever saw." Later, Foneda got into trouble with Geraldine Liston for talking.
Having just read post #81 by @newurban99. it seems that Sonny would have struggled to make it onto anyone's 'ignored member' list! That's a joke, by the way. Speaking of your ignored member list, any chance I could be on it too, please?
Morning JT or whatever it is over there. My comment about irony sailing over his head, it was prescient. Go and check out this thread. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/most-limited-atg.670009/ Priceless plonkerage.
this is goofy how does dropping the lead hand get you more leverage on the right hand ? and show examples of this or any text of Joe louis saying this he has a whole how to box book, where does he say that in there ( hint hint Ive read the book!)
this has dragged on far enough ,bottomline sonny aint **** he is overrated to me , on film he looks crude and unrefined , ezzard charles thought this when he sparred them (read ezzard charles a boxing life by william detloff) His resume is weak he is (2 and 2 vs hall of fame opponents past prime Floyd patterson he was 2 and 0 and pre prime ali he was 0 and 2 ) he beat even worse competition (how many fights did he win when he was the underdog or the smaller guy ? not many or none! If you are mad about my opinion on Liston then put on a cape and be super mad dun dun dun!
It doesn’t get you more leverage as far as I know. I’m pretty sure he said it (or someone else did I’m not willing to die on this hill) what I am willing to die on is that he dropped it consistently not from throwing a hard jab (which should have nothing to do with wether the punch is thrown or not because as it’s taught you should always keep your hands up Liston does not consistently drop his left as Louis does).
What is wrong with you dude? Are you mentally disabled? Have some respect. Saying a former Heavyweight Champion of the world 'aint ****' is incredibly cringeworthy. Maybe you should take some English classes before insulting others with your atrocious, well, everything.
https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=VcgyAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8-wFAAAAIBAJ&pg=2492,1394285 page 6 of 35 for ezzard charles opinion on Sonny liston!
using mental disabled as an insult is classless , lets not be abliest here, I just posted that ezzard charles didnt think Liston wasnt **** either ,you think ezzard doesnt know his **** , he sparred him in 54!
