    Joe Calzaghe vs Rocky Marciano

    Hear me out.

Joe was champ at 175 and probably weighed 183 for the Jones fight.

The Rock came in around 185ish...

Who wins at a catch weight of 185 same day weigh in like in the day.

    12 round fight

Don't forget! Joe has height, reach, and speed on the Rock!

    Stamina? Who knows... A draw?

Rock hit really hard, so had the power but would be connect?

Joe has good defense and chin but Rocks chin is stuff of legend.
    Rock had a deceptive defense

    Who wins. Legit post

My 100% brutally honest opinion is that Calzhage slaps Marciano around the ring for 15 rounds.

I was thinking that in a way too. But all it takes is one from the Rock.

    Tough one

This one has come up before, as well as fights with Jones and Toney. Rocky by brutal stoppage of any of them in my book.

Marciano could throw 95 punches in the 15th round of a fight--swarming is the antidote for boxing. No way Calzaghe slips, and parries all that bonecrushing volume. That goes for the other two as well.

I think this, and the other two, are great fights. I just don't see the middle and super middleweights winning.

Sorry I had a response above.

Probably the better matchup would be Moore vs Zags

    My thoughts too.

Marciano has proven 15 round stamina, heck I bet he could do 25 like old times

Rock would have to land something. And how he landed would slow him down badly even if he didn't land on the head with a Suzie Q but an attrition battle less important over 12 than 15.

Hence why I made it 12 round fantasy

I think Marciano eventually wears him down and starts connecting more and more as the fight wears on. 15 rounds would be even better for Marciano.

    Funny to think about though.

You think 12 is enough for Rock to get at him?

As much of a fan of Zaggers as I am, he never had the discipline to resist getting into a tear up, and trading - regardless of who he fought. And that would be disastrous against Marciano

KO from from mid-rounds to the Rock

While I greatly respect the boxing nous of Calzaghe, Marciano is one of those guys that consistently beats and breaks fighters that at first glance he should have no business doing so. Unfortunately for Calzaghe, as speedy and catlike as he was in the ring, he has no true one shot power to keep Rocky off of him with. Zaggers might make Marciano look foolish for a while but I've go no doubt that Rocky's volume and pressure eventually catches up to Joe and it's lights out.

Marciano would eventually catch up to Calzaghe and spark him, the Rock was a freak of nature and a one off

Joe may weigh-in near what Marciano weighs, but the difference in power and strength would be enormous. Joe would be able to land on Rock, but not sure if he does more damage to his own hands or to Marciano. Joe has nothing to keep him off, and there's zero chance he sees the final bell. Rock was a high-volume power puncher that would be in Joe's grill more and more as the fight progressed. Trying to beat Rock would be WAY different than beating a well past prime Jones (and getting knocked down in the process). Now if you're we're talking about the early version of Marciano who was nearly knocked out by Ted Lowry and was awarded a controversial decision, then who knows how that might turn out....

I was really looking forward to the Mesi/Marciano discussion until I read the post. Just very disappointed over here. Could you make me feel better by posting Malignaggi VS Basilio?

Joe was a great fighter and a great 168 pounder, but his 175 resume consists of his winning 2 decisions over one shot fighter and a good, but not great lightheavy. He was dropped in both-albeit by a forearm smash by Jones. There is no way on earth does he survive Marciano.
