Why couldn’t they have been competitive? No, it’s not like comparing Owens to Bolt. Why would you compare 2 sprinters, to 2 guys fighting in a ring?
I'm not saying 2 sprinters are comparable to 2 guys fighting in a ring. I'm saying that there's no reason to believe an athlete from over 80 years ago would be competitive against a modern athlete.
I’m putting my official pick down as Mayweather. Reasons: 1. No footage of Greb. We know that Mayweather is an elite great by h2h standards. 2. 18 loses 3. Size similar to Canelo (when Mayweather fought Canelo) 4. Huge leap of faith to assume that fighters near the relative birth of the sport were as good as modern fighters. In addition to changes in technique, boxing wasn’t even fully international back then, nor did the advanced armature scene exist. In other words, the depth wasn’t there. 5. Modern rules. Saying Greb would be a contender or even a champion today is one thing. Saying he’d beat the best modern era fighter (sorry Duran) is another.
The years pass by, yet your knowledge of the sport just stays in the position that it’s always been in. You don’t learn anything. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen you debate a fantasy fight based upon styles. Not one single time. Sure, this isn’t easy to choose, as it’s true that there’s no footage of Greb. However, there’s footage of his opponents, and the opinions of many people from throughout the years who saw him. Yet you won’t debate on how you think they may have matched up stylistically. No. All you do is quote stats without context. Some of your points are absolute garbage. 18 losses? Ha! From how many fights?? The same size as Canelo?? So?? Canelo was a passive counterpuncher. Yet from every report we’ve ever had of Greb, from former fighters, opponents, trainers, sports writers and journalists etc, Greb was a relentless machine, who pressured guys non stop, whilst throwing a huge, huge volume of punches. So why on earth would you even mention Canelo?? Look what happened when Floyd struggled against a crude Maidana, just 8 months after he’d fought Canelo. You’ve learnt nothing since becoming a member. The better fighter doesn’t always win. The fastest, biggest, heaviest, strongest guy doesn’t always win. Styles make fights. Fights are ALWAYS won depending on how the 2 guys match up stylistically. Always. Maidana caused Floyd more issues than Manny, Cotto and Canelo, despite those guys being by far superior in terms of technical ability. AJ, the poster child for the modern athlete, got run over by an obese Mexican who eats junk food all of the time. If you want to favour Floyd, then that’s fine. But do it with a breakdown, not irrelevant stats.
Mayweather,,,,better than Duran? That opinion puts you in a majority of one, maybe 2 if you count a member Floyds family, but not even Floyds uncle Roger would agree with that.
You never even saw him fight. Your perspective re: styles is conspicuously unfavorable of Mayweather regardless of opponent. Mayweather beat Maidana twice while past it. As if you know the styles of the guys who Greb lost to 18 times. lol @comparing Joshua to Mayweather. And what does Ruiz’s heritage have to do with this discussion?
