Not sure there's all that much to tell - he's mentioned it in passing. Said he and Freddie King had 2000 fruit machines in the east end of London and "it was an interesting business to say the least". I've never heard him go beyond that. Given Hearn isn't exactly quiet and has never been shy talking about business, early snooker, route into boxing and TV etc, it's odd a fruit machine empire hasn't merited any more comment!
I have posted about it before, this whole angry / I’m so hard persona is a joke as he’s got nothing to be angry about. He’s trying to come across like his dad, who actually was hard and also understandably angry because of the passing of his older brother who he idolised. It is interesting to see how he is going to come out of this once he steps back in the ring, because the general public tend to forget stuff. Yesterday’s fish and chip newspaper etc. Look at Canelo, his 6 month ban doesn’t get mentioned by anyone anymore, ever.
It really does come across as a persona. He's just a collection of soundbites, give him a shake, press his head and out pops another one. No substance to them because they all originated on an Excel spreadsheet that Doctor Frankenhearn compiled when they were analysing his dad's career and wondering how to recreate it. Boxing's answer to Tony Blair.
The eggs are staying with him - that's never going away I just don't see what Hearn does with him - he clearly needs a lot more PR and media training. But I think under it all he has such a horrible character that it's always going to come through. If Eddie does somehow come up with a persona Benn can stick to and become palatable to the public then it will be a lifetime achievement.
He's always been a horrible little c u next Tuesday, if Hearn has any sense he drops him, he's become brand damaging https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/conor-benn-disgusting-attitude.581551/page-3
I'd understand if it was Canelo or AJ and Hearn didn't want to drop them but Benn is crap and very unlikeable. He'll have no fan base after this. Hearn is damaging his and Matchroom's reputation by persisting with Benn.
I don't understand why Eddie has still stuck by the self entitled gobshite. It's not like Benn is some superstar fighter- he is average at best. Also no-one can stand him, and not in a good way like Mayweather. He is just a complete arrogant tool
At risk of repeating myself, but I'm genuinely staggered at how much damage to the matchroom and Dazn brands Hearn has been willing to incur for this boxer.
It's odd isn't it. He's never won anything. He's not very good. He's on gear. And he's not a nice person.
I've been saying exactly this for ages my friend. Totally unlikeable. Not very good. Not even the best welterweight in the UK, never won the national title. Goes life and death with a French ham n egger, then suddenly is levelling seasoned (if aged and inactive) pros Drags a 168lb fighter down to 150, and even enforces a water drinking clause. Constantly calling out ancient and retired (and smaller) fighters, the fake Kell Brook thing was utterly cringe worthy. I could go on, not even mentioning that video with his missus....... I always thought he was one cash out defeat away from retirement, one fight, ONE , yet look at the brand damage. Why? I seriously don't get it, in any way shape or form!
I see Benn has posted ' good news on the horizon' and hearn keeps mentioning movement soon. I can't see how UKAD exonerate him. The facts as we know them appear to strong in the favor of doping.
Perhaps ukad are compromising to save money which is sad but not unlike the Fury farce with PEDS. Backdated ban?
Funny how certain members who post on almost every thread remain completely silent on this issue......I wonder why!
