DKSAB. People love to say Dubois always folds in big fights or gave up vs Joyce. Yeah, he did “quit” once when Joyce shattered his eye and while I don’t blame him, I get why people call it poetic justice after he mocked Joyce’s blind mom and discredit his heart in this fight. He was 22 and still a kid. Since then, he’s gone on a killer run, took tough fights as an underdog, and proved his power is real. His jab’s become a weapon too. Funny how the same fans crying about ducking and “protecting 0s” are the ones who bring up a loss from five years ago every time he fights. He took Miller who has an A+ chins 0 by stopping him, took Hrgybear and excellent fights 0 and destroyed Joshua. 40 year old Usyk fought and absolute prime killer in Dubois, not the 22 year old kid who lost to Joyce. That Dubois loses to Hrgy, Joshua and Miller. This is an A+ win for the GOAT Usyk, it might not age well since I can see the damage done being career changing but Dubois could prove us wrong again.
Dubois is a prime killer he's just been outclassed and that's a testament to Usyk. He doesn't like it when things get tough though, 3 knees against Lerena should have resulted in a loss because 3 knockdown rule was actually in effect there, but oh well.
Didn’t he have a knee injury? I didn’t watch that fight. Saying he doesn’t like it when things get tough is exactly why I posted this thread. That was proven once against Joyce when he was a 22 year old kid. Hrgy fight was competitive and was tough for Dubois, that’s not a fair statement to make an and attempt to discredit him. Now if you said Victor Ortiz doesn’t it like it when things get tough, that’s something I couldn’t refute.
Dubois is a good fighter and has done well. I think people are too hard on him, but he definitely doesn't have the same heart for the sport as guys like Fury, Joshua or Wilder who will go out on their shield. It really seems like he does boxing because boxing is what his dad has pushed him into his whole life rather than because he chose and loves it like the other fighters mentioned.
Joyce fight his eye was puffed up like a balloon so that wasn't really quit but he did go take a knee from a Usyk jab in their first fight, because he didn't have an ounce of success outside of the low blow. And yes knee injury but that still counts as a knee therefore knockdown. Otherwise you could just take a knee whenever you felt like a break, punishment free.
What? I didn't know this (I knew about 3 knees, but I didn't know the 3 knockdown rule was in effect). The rules of the fight were broken so blatantly and so brutally?
Usyk & Fury on form cannot be touched by plodding bog standard heavyweights, no point judging a man who loses to them. Not really about heart, when these big bodybuilding lumps get hurt and tired they falter badly. He did well to gather himself quickly after a hurt AJ landed on him and beat AJ to the punch...which is easily done given the bodybuilding bum has no idea how to box. Very hard for a heavy muscle bound fighter to endure this current version of Usyk, who has got BETTER against bog standard heavys despite getting older. They don't mentally challenge him at all. They might get to Usyk when he is 42 and on a real physical decline.
He suffered a fractured orbital socket and nerve damage vs Big Joe Joyce and fought through the pain for a number of rounds Against Lerena he tore his ACL in round 1 and at least 2 if not all 3 of those KDs were due to the injury and he voluntarily took a knee for 2 of them. He was hobbling round the ring like a peg-leg cripple for the next 2 rounds and whilst the ref was quick to wave it off the first time Lerena was in trouble and round 1 ended 9 seconds early Dubois did show a lot of heart to come back and win the fight via stoppage after suffering potentially his 2nd career-threatening injury. He ate about 50 flush right hands from Hrgovic if not more, many in quick succession and he showed a lot of heart to withstand them all and the adversity he overcame in the Miller fight when being walked down by a man mountain who outweighed him by almost 100lbs. Being walked down by a 333lb iron-jawed man mountain who your bombs just bounce off is very mentally and physically draining, especially more so when you're coming off a demoralizing stoppage loss in your previous fight. Dubois was the underdog vs Hrgovic and AJ Fighting Usyk is very mentally and physically draining too. It's impossible to intimidate him, he is a defensive master and is hard to tag clean, and Dubois did everything people wanted him to do - being more aggressive trying to back Usyk up - but Usyk can slip out of danger quickly, turn the tables on you just as quickly, and somehow unbeknownst to many use the opponent's aggression against them and walk them into big counters Like this This was a massive shot and it would've knocked out a lot of HWs Timestamped This content is protected And the finishing shot was another massive flush fight ender This content is protected No one was calling that big sexy Chinese man Big Bang a ''quitter'' when he didn't beat the count vs Kabayel People acting like three B2B stoppage wins over AJ, Hrgovic and Miller aren't impressive. Just beating them on points would be impressive enough Compare that three fight run to the runs many of their current favs have had who they hype to high heaven
A lot of people always doubted Dubious could be a top tier fighter. I am amongst them. He is just "not bad", and he can thank his godfather (whoever he is) for all the undeserved opportunities he got, starting with the rematch that should have never happened. As it has already been mentioned, his future is being KTFO by prospects and hungry young lions.
If Dubois wasn't headbutting Hrgovic every 10 seconds then he would've lost on points. Dubois can obviously fight, but he would not have been world-level in a lot of other eras. I think he's limited because of the ring IQ he displays, he just barrels forward, poor head movement, and does not have the skill set to employ an effective plan B. Knocking out a completely spent version of Joshua made him look a lot better than he actually is - he's a solid Euro-level fighter. He'd have lost to Parker if he hadn't pulled out the night before as well.
