As dumb as this thread is in the first place, and as much as Chisora was a good pressure fighter at heavy, it just occurred to me that Marco Huck is a good cruiserweight pressure fighter, if a couple of fights past his best.

So I would say that Chisora, Huck, and the WSB fights with Nistor and Joyce are all good examples of victories over pressure fighters.

I get what you’re saying and it’s an interesting point, but the fact is he hasn’t faced anyone like that because he is faster, moves better and feints better. In short, he’s got the advantage because he’s better and has dedicated himself to be so.

I’m of the opinion that Parker will give Usyk more problems than Kabayel. Usyk is (now) a complete boxer and is a master of all styles. I think more complete boxers who can switch between styles will trouble him more than boxers who have great skills in a limited range of skillsets.

I would love to see the Kabayel fight, but I just don’t think Kabayel’s - sit in your face and grind it out - style is going to be the answer here.

Like I said, have you ever seen a fighter whose opponents ''got the tactics wrong" as much as Usyk's have?

Why do we never hear this about the opponents of Crawford, Inoue, Bivol, Bam-Rod, Clenelo, Twink, Shakur etc.?

Imagine Crawford or Inoue were CWs who had achieved everything Usyk has at CW and HW, winning and unifying all of their belts in their opponent's backyards sans one which was still on the road, never having home advantage outside of one fight in a neighbouring country to their respective homelands, running through a murderer's row of savage punchers, KO artists and legit bangers, many of whom much or way bigger and heavier than them, whilst never having being knocked down, and had gone on a giant slaying tour at HW on route to becoming undisputed, all of these fights against savage punchers, KO artists, giants, savage punching giants coming with a lot or enormous jeopardy

Would we hear so much as a peep about their opponents ''getting the tactics wrong" or would they universally be regarded as boxing genius ATG legends?

Chisora is at least close to high level, since he's been floating around world level for the past decade and a bit. He's no world-beater, but he is credible, he is a pressure fighter, and he has competed at a high level for a long time and usually gives a good account. If he weren't "anywhere close to high level," then he wouldn't still be in the sport and he would have been white-washed every time he stepped up.

Gassiev is a puncher but he is also a pressure fighter and I think you're being needlessly picky when it comes to defining what a pressure fighter is and who qualifies as one. Gassiev fights moving forward, cuts off the ring, works the body, lets his hands go, and he tries to deny space so he can land hard shots. Therefore, he's a applying pressure to opponents as the main part of how he wins fights, so he's a pressure fighter who just so happens to be a massive puncher.

I just answered your question. Sorry if it seemed abrupt but I don’t think Patersons speed would have caused Usyk any problems.

To his credit though… Gassiev happens to be a top 3 puncher in the sport. At his best at cruiser… probably PFP the most dangerous imo.

Think Kabayel gives Usyk the most trouble and dare I say that I have Kabayel winning that fight

    Would love to see it

I can't believe that I didn't say it at the time, but Briedis threw almost 50 punches a round against Usyk. 48.25 to be exact. So he beat two very good pressure fighters at pro in Briedis and Chisora.

The only hole in his resume for me is Dubois; it's not really Usyk's fault because the UK has the big-money fights, and the promoters who can leverage their guys way above their station. Three pointless rematches, really. He beat all the top Brits easily, but especially Dubois; that first fight was a one-sided beatdown, aside from the obvious low blow. The second fight, he went out there, stood his ground, and delivered a highlight reel KO, walked Dubois onto the haymaker from hell because Dubois does not have any ring IQ at the elite level.

Dubois already got comprehensively outboxed by Joyce, has previous for taking a knee, which showcases his mentality, nearly lost in 1 round to Lerena, and without headbutting Hrgovic into oblivion, he might've lost that one, too. If there are any holes in his resume, then it is Dubois. Everything else is solid; his cruiserweight run is one of the greatest championship runs of this century so far. His HW is lacking, though, because the HW division is poor, and I'm confident the history books will reflect that, but again, not entirely his fault. Usyk ticks every HOF box.

Breidis is an elite pressure fighter in my book, and it was Usyk's toughest fight. Chisora is a decent gatekeeper, but he is absolutely nowhere near the same level as Breidis, so as far as pressure fighters go, he has beaten the best available at CW at the time, and because the HW is poor, especially in the historical context of the division, there are no elite pressure fighters who are P4P anywhere near Breidis at HW.

Dubois stopped Hrgo, Miller, Joshua in a row. Parker doesn't pose more of a threat, there wasn't anyone more deserving at the time than Dubois II (the added bonus of silencing any low-blow idiots).

Usyk beat Chisora, Joyce in WSB, and squeaked by Beterbiev in the ams. What more are you looking for in a pressure fighter?

Miller was a multiple PED-failing cheat, though, and he's beaten nobody that's remotely close to world level. Joshua was also shot to pieces in the Dubois fight, and the Hrgovic fight was one of the worst refereeing performances for quite some time; he basically headbutted Hrgovic until his face was cut to pieces. At the time, Parker had wins over Zhang and Wilder, which were just as good, if not better than Dubois. Why he chose to fight Wardley, I will never know.

Dubois then ducked the Parker fight shamelessly at the final hour, only to be given another undeserved crack at all the marbles and get smashed to bits again. Without the IBF belt, which was Usyk's anyway, the fight made zero sense. Definitely not from a merit standpoint, and if it did, it speaks to how weak the HW crop is.

Yeah, I was disagreeing with the original post. Usyk has beaten plenty of quality pressure fighters.

Who was more deserving at the time?
