totally delusional take to even suggest Corbett has the speed advantage let alone having a chance in this fight . The best case scenario for Corbett is him getting a few duck under counters but even then it's highly unlikely. I get you're playing a character with this Corbett fanboy nonsense but you expose yourself comparing a pace of a 25 round (Fitzsimmons) bout to the era Greb was in it's totally night and day.
Hi Fergy. Agree, but does any fighter from that era impress, Ketchell, Jeffries, Corbett, Fitz, all look arcane, I was shocked when YT put out slides of these fighters, some might say Johnson looks good, maybe, I feel any moderate fighter of the 40s and 50s would have the beating of the old timers, with very few exceptions. stay safe buddy, chat soon. Mike.
Hi Mike No, the problem with me with Corbett is his record tbh. The biggest win on his record is over the aged, washed up John L . The Sullivan win does a lot of the work when people talk about Corbett. He never really beat any genuinely great fighters or anything like that.
Methinks it is delusional to believe that any former champion who is about the same size (& Corbett is larger) has "no chance" against someone who also is from Ye Olde ancient Tymes. We do not even know if Greb is faster-although I suspect he was. I would go with Greb, but *no way* is anything a foregone conclusion.
I get that your entire essence of self worth relies on proving that I was wrong in a debate you ran away from almost 2 months ago, but the fact that you're genuinely so stupid that you think my example of Corbett calling the feinting of the Fitzsimmons fight the most exhausting thing he's ever dealt with as me somehow looking at Corbett's cardio and workrate favoutably compared to Greb's, where I LITERALLY USE THIS AS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW HE PROBABLY CAN'T HANDLE GREB'S PACE, is just embarrassing. I literally use that example as a reason he likely can't handle Greb's pace in the same paragraph you dumb, dumb clown. We don't have much footage to compare between them with regard to speed but it's painfully clear Corbett was as much of an outlier in that regard as Greb was; McCoy was a speed freak himself and Corbett was faster than him on fight night according to first hand accounts, you can even look at a 60 year old Corbett light sparring Tunney it's clear the guy was naturally gifted with speed. What are you basing Greb having the speed advantage on, exactly? On the extensive footage available of him showing it off? It's speculation either way That's why I find it so ironic that I'm the one being accused of a troll here, to me it's either youre a troll or genuinely cognitively challenged because literally all you've done throughout our conversations is make **** up, straight up fabricate takes out of nowhere and attribute them to me. Does this sound like a well adjusted person? I don't get it, did our first debate traumatize you so badly that you have some sort of PTSD response that forces you to lie? If acting like you've 'exposed me' helps you sleep at night without the meds then by all means
lol "ran from a debate" I was banned because you cried to the mods . You got totally embarrassed and went running for help you'll never live that down. I'm not trying to get banned again so there's no point in addressing this any further. If you can't see the absolute foolery of comparing Greb to Corbett you're too far gone playing a character
He definitely didn't nearly all the guys he beat have some type of massive asterisk that you can't really consider it a win imo
Hello, Reason123. I would go with Harry Greb, partly based on styles, but there is no way to be sure. A lot depends on whether Tunney was better than Corbett, as believed by many moderns, or whether Corbett was better, as believed by many old timers.
Based upon record, # of victories & losses, strength of competition, & how boxing progressed until the 1920's...And while not aged, Sullivan was so disaapaited by drink & with a stylistic disadvantage.... I think Tunney was significantly better than Corbett.
I doubt may now would say Corbett was better than Tunney,I certainly wouldn't.Tunney has a shallow winning resume against heavyweights , Corbett's against what we would consider a real heavyweight is virtually non existent!
Sullivan was 212 lbs. against Corbett (at 178 lbs.), about exactly what peak Ali was in the mid-late 1960's. So he was a real HW, although we would agree that Sullivan due to years of alcoholism Sullivan was far from his own prime. I think prime Dempsey would beat prime Tunney, in part due to styles, but Sullivan had the same advantage & was further gone-in terms of time since his prime, & due to drinking. So I highly doubt Corbett would have evaded Sullivan & avoided a KO years earlier.
Sullivan had not fought for nearly 6 years. Do you think at that stage he was as good as prime Brennan? Gibbons? Renault?
Good question! And I do not know these fighters well enough to say. Gibbons-& maybe the others-it likely is a question if he could catch these guys. He did go for 20 some rounds against Corbett, where he was forced to be very active against a fleet fighter, so even relatively washed up he had some endurance, & could not be dispatched for a long while. I was just saying he was HW size. What do you think?
