Is Evander Holyfield the greatest warrior the sport has ever seen?

Well, i think that his warrior spirit and mindset compares to anyone in history. Does anyone doubt that had Holyfield fought in any era, he would've done whatever it took to win?

This guy was an undersized HW who took on some of the best HWs of all time and never backed down. He stood his ground and just kept fighting. He took numberous beatings. I mean you listen to him talk about his past fights and you realize that he was wired differently. Like winning was everything to him. His health was secondary.

I mean you see the sport today and how fights are being cancelled left and right and you switch back to Holyfield and you realize that he is a truly rare breed. All boxers should be respected for getting in that ring but not all of them have that true warrior spirit like Holyfield.

Defintely, and if my avatar had a big pair of tits I'd slap you with them:good. That being said, I was curious as well when you mentioned-Holyfield always "seemed" to be one of the good guys in this sport.

He also acquired hepatitis prior to his fight with Bowe II. Doctors told him his energy level would go up and down and it showed in the fight.

Absolutely not. He has some good wins but great warriors at HW do not get flattened by body shots from a fat former middleweight, no matter how old they are.

Lets not forget that Ruiz also floored him :shock: and Moorer out-pointed him....Holy is way too inconsistent to be given that kind of plaudit. Give it to Hagler instead, I'd understand that.

 

Can't be said if he is or isn't, but there's no question he's a contender. Same as.

What do his losses when he's old have to do with him not being a warrior? Doesn't change the fact that he fought everyone and anyone, both in his era, and future eras. Please man, you gonna degrade Gatti for getting knocked out by a guy with just 13 ko's? Or Vargas by getting Ko'd by former lightweights? They were old and past it, and winning and losing has nothing to do with wether or not they're warriors or not. Their past history proves that they are.

 

Something like this is impossible to tell. Having an iron chin or overall durable body can make you look like a warrior. Head/bodies take punishment in different ways. A guy like Hagler, yeah he's a warrior, he has an iron chin, but if you get hit hard enough your legs will go and it doesn't matter how much heart you have, you won't be getting up. That's why I never judge quitters or anything, no one knows how much pain they were suffering or how hurt they really were except them.

Corrales got hit and hurt, sure, but he was still physically able to get up. In the second Castillo fight, no matter how much heart he had, he was flattened. A guy like Khan, he has a "glass jaw", he got up from that huge KD, he has really hurt and wobbly, he was done, but tons of people make fun of him and would never list him as a "warrior", that's crap to me.

 

Not all-time, but in the past 20-30 years probably yes

 

He'd certainly make a top 10 list over the last 25 years, but greatest ever I'm afraid not. Many people have listed fighters they thought were great warriors but so far no one's mentioned Duran, who I consider the greatest warrior I've ever had the pleasure of watching.

I'd say a guy like Gatti is. Just because he didn't have the talent a guy like Holyfield had. He needed to gut out some of his wins and take beat downs because he wasn't an ATG like Holy. But Holyfield was definitely a warrior.
