Going on about opponents is to get people to understand their resumes are comparable. The point being, if people take Rocky more seriously rather than downplaying his wins and his abilities and analyzing the fight stylistically they would know a fight with Frazier would be a close all out war. Poll shows most think this way... of course there are a few who think its a runaway and no contest like She Grant. Of course they also believe Frazier hits harder than Rocky. :nut Can't ever give the credit where it's due. No objectivity.
Two of my favorite fighters ever....this is a war...but..I have to go with The Rock in this one by KO....not an easy fight at all...
This is a difficult fight to call. I believe their difference in strength to minimal, though I do think that Marciano would be stronger in the later rounds. Stamina is in Marciano's favor, in terms of maintaining power, but Frazier can probably throw a higher volume of punches over the course of a fight. Speed and footwork are in Frazier's favor, but Marciano's defense may be ok in this fight. The knock on Marciano is that his better opponents were blown up light heavyweights. The flip side to that is that Marciano faced faster opponents. Marciano clearly looks like the harder puncher, despite the size difference. The key differences here are size and speed. Joe Frazier lost against two guys, both of which were larger opponents. Frazier would carry a size, speed, and footwork advantage over Marciano. Marciano, as the smaller fighter, would not be able to physically break Frazier down the way larger fighters can. Frazier would be able to out move Marciano, be able to beat Marciano to the punch with his speed, and probably have a higher punch output to Marciano over the course of the fight. Marciano is a late round ko threat, but I'll take Joe by decision here.
i LOVE frazier, one of my two favourite heavyweights of all time but in no way, shape or form does frazier hit harder. i give that to rocky, along with durability though not by as big a margin. conditioning as well. ****, dammit pete, you're making me really think about this!
This is probably the best idea. These two guys match up so well it's almost impossible to seperate them...the advantages the one may have over the other in any one area is slight.
--he grant This message is hidden because he grant is on your ignore list. -- It seems best. Definitely a tough matchup. I still can't help but lean towards Marciano.
One of weirdest things I ever saw was in first Bonovena -Frazier fight. I thought Frazier deserved decision, which some say Bonevena should have got. But strange thing was what Oscar did after scoring knockdowns. Three knockdown rule was in effect, Frazier was down twice in first minute or so of a round, one more knockdown and fight is stopped automatically. Frazier gets up from secod knockdown, looks a bit shakey, and Bonevena runs! He just starts backpeddling rest of round. Anyone got a youtube link to that?
