Lamotta/Basilio-equal weights,A WAR,winner

In my eyes these two battlers were as TOUGH as any pair of boxers in history...Given equal weights, both at their best, who wins a 15 round fray ?--What say you ?

P4P, Basilio's better defence, work-rate and fundamentals get him the decision. I can see them both going to A&E afterwards, though.

^^ agreed...****, if we're talking in a p4p sense, i agree with itrymariti. if we're talking about a common weight, like middle, lamotta bullies him and takes a VERY close decision in a FOTD contender

You saw what Fullmer did to Basillio. Lamotta would do far worse.

 

That, but the Raging Bull wins a very narrow decision against the smaller Onion Farmer to earn the right to get to get eaten by the Nigerian Tiger.

What, give lateral movement, starve Basilio's work-rate and bombard him with speedy pot-shots from the outside? I don't see that happening.

 

Agreed, when Dick Tiger was fighting in the sixties, he was a solid strong middleweight, nothing more..Tiger, who i admired very much, was beaten by Randy Sandy,Wilf Greaves,Giardello,Rory Calhoun, Joey Archer,etc.He did reverse some of these bouts,true...But a Jake Lamotta,on the square,not weight drained would have licked Tiger ror sure,at their 160 pound peaks...Lamotta, just as strong, and much more cunning, would never have lost to the men that licked Dick Tiger, I believe...We sell Jakie short by that weight drained tko by the immortal Robinson in 1951...Lloyd Marshall takes Dick Tiger primes at 165,my thinking...

It's too hard to call, in a p4p sense, LaMotta might be stronger still. Basilio has better combos and for that is probably a 'better fighter', so to speak. LaMotta is not getting stopped, guaranteed, and I doubt LaMotta himself is stopping Basilio. I really like how LaMotta counters personally, he rolls and comes under and over with body shots and head shots respectively, it's quality, he's making himself a small target all the time. That kind of style miht not play too much of a role here though as this is simply war. I'm taking LaMotta, the strength comes into play late and he edges it there. It's strange because i might even rate Basilio slightly higher as a fighter.

 

Lamotta was better than fullmer in every sense. Stronger, Better Stamina, Better workrate, better defense, better chin, better skills, and he certainly took better angles than fullmer. If Basillio thought fullmer smothered him to death...he is in for a rude awakening when he faces a prime jake lamotta.
