Mosley outright clammed up against Mayweather.Adapting doesn't even come into it really.He could have went hell for leather, but that isn't in his nature.

I recently watched the absolutely awesome effort Bouttier gave in his rematch with Monzon, once it became yet again apparent he wasn't going to win with his usual tidy outboxing, so maybe i'm more critical than i should be, but i'd like to see more current fighters do that in the big fights, especially one as hyped as this and involving such an experienced guy like Shane.

 

Bouttier is an iron man.I'm talking about the one that goes the distance by the way.I always forget if it's the first or second one.

Definitely his least impressive performances as a champ.I think he got sharper again after those fights, but his best was definitely early in his reign.

 

Those rights almost separated him from his consciouness, lora. After that, Shane gun's became water pistols.

 

Whats naive is comparing a five time world champion to a 19 year old prospect.
Do you consider Lennox Lewis elite? I do. What adversity did he face throughout his career? Getting knocked out and then winning a rematch doesnt prove your greatness.

 

Yeah in 2000 he probably would have settled for getting himself knocked out. :roll:

If anything, Shane was disarmed after the drama in round 2. He had nothing to fend off Mayweather, not even a water pistol.

 

Lennox Lewis is not elite if you are talking about the top 20 or 25 guys who ever lived. He's an elite HW, sure.

And either way, he did face adversity. Stopping both guys who KOd him in the returns is nothing to sneeze at. That fight with Mercer was not exactly easy either. And Ruddock was adversity personified when Lennox stepped into the ring with him.

Did you watch the fight with Vitali? You think it was easy?

 

He had plenty to fend off Mayweather, but he forgot it all. I don't think that the problem was age, or even his limitations in terms of skill. It may have been psychological. Floyd's brilliance and yes, even his power, may have unnerved Shane.

Even so, I appreciated Larry's rebuke in the post-fight interview... "Shane, you've been a professional for 17 years. How could you tense up?"

 

Mosley couldn't get his shots off; Marquez could, Hatton could, De La Hoya could, but Mosley couldn't. I can't make much sense of that.

 

Me neither. And to try would invade the realm of psycho-analysis.

This is one of the several shadows of boxing: Losing can not only be humiliating, it can also mean that the loser is going to live with real regret forevermore. Shane, to some degree, has damned himself. Some day, he'll be muttering about this in a nursing home.

I know of a man who was once on a baseball little league team when he was 8. His team made it to the play-offs. Top of the ninth, his team is behind by 1 run. Bases loaded. Tying run at 3rd base. He's at bat. Full count. The pitch. He freezes. It's a strike. He's in his 30s now and tries not to think about it.

He should have at least went down swinging.
