Whos is better? Ottkes 21 defences or Hopkins 20 defences?

Hopkins lost to Taylor and Calzaghe when he was in his 40's for Christ sake, and even then the decisions were debatable. Prime Hopkins (from around '95 to '02) would have comfortably beat these two in my opinion.

 

Lets not talk silly now. If Hopkins thought he could have beaten Calzaghe, he would have fought him instead of backing out.
But lets stick to the subject at hand, which is Ottkes resume compared to Hopkins, and whos is better

 

Garbage when undefeated unified champ, 21 defences and beats 2 reigning champs, 2 former world champs, 2 European champs and 3 future world champs, plus other world rated fighters.

I agree, those guys being naturally bigger would most likely have beaten Trinidad and Oscar, and are better victories, but that also cements the idea that Ottke has a better resume, beating better fighters than the 3 you mentioned, who were also naturally bigger men.

Hopkins resume is better because he beat better fighters in a more convincing manner, simple.

You see the thing is, most boxing fans base their opinions on what they see going on in the ring, not by looking up stats on boxrec.

Over analyzed at it's best as usual... Seems the lot of you think a title defense has to be against an ATG to matter. They don't. Truth is, both Ottke and Hopkins title defense streaks are impressive. It's not easy to do that unless you are very talented. That said, both guys did have a lot of soft touches. But Ottke was on the receiveing end of some very dubious decisions.
