While Cortez is an incompetent ref, you're an idiot if you think he should have let Kirkland continue.

    The real tragedy is...

people on this thread who don't know the difference between 'should have' and 'should of'.

That's some serious brain injury, chaps. Get it checked.

Cortez looked like an idiot jumping on Kirkland, wrestling and forcing him to the ground.

It did look strange because Cortez had to physically restrain him. Kirkland was getting up pretty much as soon as he hit the canvas. Not having been in the ring I could not personally judge the full impact the punches had on Kirkland so I'm not going to condemn Cortez. He simply got confused. He knew the Golden Boy fighter was supposed to dominate and just got confused which one it was for obvious reasons. :D

Kirkland had no defence that's why.

Yeah. It reminded me of Jacobs/Pirog. Jacobs tried to get up fast but the ref pushed him down as if to say "No stay down you're knocked out."

I mean cmon, there was no 3 KD rule in effect and Kirkland wasnt on ***** street by a stretch.

It makes no sense why Cortez would allow one fighter to continue after 3 KDs in the first (Pac/JMM I) and not in another.

I think it was a good stoppage, the fight had entered a rhythm of Kirkland down, back up, down again, back up in wobbly fashion and so on.

There was no reason for that to continue any longer than it did.
