    the wbo wasn't even a recognized belt in the 90s. that's why you have guys with 7 fights fighting for that title.

    Not really. Tyson was a former champion coming off two comeback victories.
    Okay,Pete McNeeley and Buster Mathis Jr.were n't exactly world beaters,but in modern times even wins over low ranked fighters are enough to get you ranked yourself.
    Besides,Tyson had already beaten Bruno,so consensus said that he had a good chance of repeating it.

    I disagree, no way Does Tyson deserve a title shot after beating Mathis and Mcneely.

    Once he came out of prison i felt he had to work his way back into title contention and the 2 above, simply dont cut it.

    Who did Ali fight on his comeback? compare that to Tyson

    I agree when it comes to comparing Ali and Tyson's comeback opponents !!!!!!!!! But there's been worse examples than Tyson. Leonard should n't have been allowed to challenge Hagler without a tune up.

    There was plenty of guys Tyson could have and should have fought before fighting for a title.

    This also would have prepared him better for Holyfield

    I think the fact that Tyson was clearly number 1 contender before he went away did help his case.
    Also, it was only the WBC version title held by Frank Bruno that he challenged for ....... and Bruno hadn't exactly done anything to get his own shot.

    Vitali Klitschko v Sam Peter is a similar case.

    But the scenery changed dramatically from when Tyson went in to when he came out. Why did Bruno defend it against Tyson anyway? didnt he think of a safer defence?

    Blame Don King. He was keeping his boy in the money. That's why he put a block on Lennox Lewis challenging him for the WBC title in '96.

    Bruno wanted returns against Tyson and Lewis. Maybe his people thought that Tyson was the safer option,in lieu of his inactivity.
