Yeah, Pryor's a hell of a fighter. No doubt. I thought Rooster meant how Leonard ranked at welterweight only though, which is that other conversation of Pryor not having a welterweight identity. Sure, it would be a great name to have on his record though. I wouldn't claim otherwise.

He is a lock as a top five welterweight anyway. I dont think you can watch Ray Leonard in his prime and say that he isn't. In that regard I dont give a **** about resumes and longevity.

just admit it, Pryor and Curry both highly respected fighters at the time would bring a lot more respect than lalonde or Kalule. I still dont think he could take Norris in a fight though.

The problem is if he beat Curry, perhaps ruined him and Curry never went on to do anything as a result, no one here would rate Curry, few would be familiar with him. A Pryor win would be rated highly after he knocked Arguello off, but ofcourse plenty would talk of Pryor being the smaller man.

maybe so but i'd still like to see him do it. I remember at the time how McCrory and Curry were the two big names after Leonard but Curry's was the more respected.

Win over both Curry & Pryor would make his resume look more diversified with more talented opposition in addition to Hearns, Benitez, and Duran.

That's five big names altogether. To me that's really enough to stake his claim at that weight

and so what if Pryor is moving up in weight as that poster said. Wasnt Duran also moving up and dont his supporters still credit him for it? beating someone like Pryor can only elevate his status.

"just admit it" Ah, the ulterior motive comes out. Pretty predictable. No, no I won't admit that. A light heavyweight champion or a midget?

I'v seen a lightweight and jr lightweight beat him. So why isnt someone one step down seen as a competitive opponent? Opponents like Lalonde are the reason Ray doesnt get respect

I was just thinking the same thing. Its like a completely different outlook on a subject that was argued and debated for ages by the same person. Forgive me rooster but i just dont get your reasoning for the huge change of tact. Have you seen something recently to change your train of thought?

:rofl Yeah, that Ray Leonard. The majority don't give him respect. The only people that give him respect are ...let's see...pretty much everybody but you and Hagler...so...Yeah...too bad he doesn't get respect. :patsch

Agreed. This is why I bring up these hypotheticals; what he could have done to improve his status to certify his standing. IMO, wins over Curry, Pryor, and Norris would bring him that respect. And even a win over Norris would at least show that he could in fact handle a young, speedy opponent which has always been the knock against him. A win over Nunn would have been the ultimate for me but I suppose that's asking too much

When I saw the title of the thread I thought this was a discussion about Oliver McCall.

Me too, then the haters would be going berko that he took on a fighter that wasn't even in his division and there were more deserving fighters campaining at 147 etc etc etc. No matter what he did it would not have been good enough ;)
