Glenn Johnson and Abraham finished even on points, but Johnson finished above him on 'judges countback' if I recall correctly. Can someone explain how this tiebreaker works?
As they didn't fight head-to-head and both had 1 KO/TKO the standings are decided by 'scorecard points' The following info is from Showtime: Scorecards*: If they remain tied after the KO/TKO test, then the seeding is determined by the total scorecard points earned by the fighters from each of their Group Stage bouts. The boxer with more scorecard points will be seeded above the other. *Those boxers who win prior to the final bell (via KO/TKO/DQ/Tech Decision, etc.) earn 10 points for each incomplete round. Those who lose earn 8 points in a KO/TKO round and 9 points for each subsiquent round. *Those boxers who win prior to the final bell (via KO/TKO/DQ/Tech Decision, etc.) earn 10 points for each incomplete round. thanks magicman i'm sure they could have been a simpler way to decide, but at least we get 2 see 2 new fights in the next round instead of a Froch v Abraham rematch
Aye, but even avoiding all the complicated ****, surely Johnson should have finished above Abraham anyway based simply on... Johnson won 1, 1 ko Abraham won 1, 1 ko, 2 losses
true but the arguement would be if Johnson had faced Dirrell and Froch would he have won? For me the only person to have earned there place with 3 tough fights, which is how it was advertised has be Froch.
He didn't though, did he? I see what your point is, but for me, whether he'd have won or not is irrelevant, it's not Johnson's fault he didn't get to fight them. He won the fight put in front of him. It's a tricky situation though, to be honest Showtime could have manoeuvured it however they wanted so it doesn't neccesarily matter. And your spot on about Froch in your last point.

Well i think showtime like everyone else were expecting Froch vs AA to be a quality fight which was close. If Froch had won the fight 9-3 on the cards there would have been a rematch. So it had been set up for them to rematch. The real shame is that if Kessler had stayed in and beaten Green, we would of seen Kessler vs Froch rematch. Bit of a shame. perfect scenario for me now is. Mar 2011 - Froch beats Johnson in Nottingham Oct 2011 - Froch beats Ward in Vegas Feb 2012 - Froch beats Bute in New York Sep 2012 - Froch beats Kessler in London Jan 2013 - Froch beats Pascal in Canada
To be honest, even if they had to contradict the rules; we were never going to see Froch/AA 2. Like you said previously, I'm happy about having two fresh fights, no matter what the previous ruling meant.
Yeah think so, they dont want it dragging on too much longer. Guessing the semis will be a double-header in America somewhere then the final in the garden. Hope so, already saving up the trip for the final against Ward.
